Thanks Lith, i haven't been on here for a few years now.

Always looking at street sensible (budget) RB25s.

From memory the 5858 sounded familar and also the 6262.  Quite a few yanks had some good results on their Evo / WRX.

Just looking at the Precision website, what are the new "gun" turbos ?

GEN2 PT5558 – 650hp

GEN2 PT5862 – 700hp

GEN2 PT6062 – 750hp

All good.

I'm not super super familiar with those tbh, I'm not going to bring up other turbos in a thread about Precisions but my opinion is that the Precision turbos really start starting to come into their own from the 64mm+ sizes - usually when you're looking at 75lb/min or less flowing turbos the aim is typically something that is geared towards being more snappy underfoot and the Precisions aren't necessarily famous for their transient response, at least compared to newer releases some other brands.

I do know those 3 have been out for a few years now already, and I have at least heard the 6062 is a solid performer in it's own right - makes good power for a 60mm turbo and not particularly laggy.  Suggesting that I feel there are better options in no means I think they're nuggets :)

anyone found any 6062 results? having a poke around and they dont seem to exist from reliable resources in Australia.

going to scale down from 6466 to 6062, also dropping cam size to pick up more downlow for rallysprint but just trying to make sure we are making the right move.

Thought I'd bump this thread as Precision have been superceding their Gen2 units with the  "NextGen" range and the updated 6266 and 6466 have just been released, rated at 925 (more than the Gen2 6466) and 1000hp respectively so decent improvements and probably most relevant to people who would be reading this.

The NextGen 6670 has also been released, kinda like a 6870 flow (quoted at 1100hp) but sitting between the 6466 and 6870 size wise.

I have been keeping up to date with their releases. The one that still doesn’t make sense to me is the new 7275 being capable of making 1380hp especially considering the 7475 that replaced the old 7675 is only able to make 1350hp.

These are precisions claims of corse and no one has actually tried any of them or if they have, haven’t show the results

Fairly sure I've already seen a bonkers NextGen 7275 result, trying to think of where.  Could just be another Apex turbo result as those things are just mental

Be interesting to see gen2 vs next gen 7275 on the same car and a couple of the sportsman’s against it as well

Precision presented their new next gen 6466 yesterday. It's now rated to 1000hp vs the gen 2's 900hp rating. It's now available with either the S or HP cover. They mention that the cover has flow enhancements and I'm wondering if they will release the enhanced HP cover for the gen2's.

Is this based of the Mean Street Class Legal 6470 series turbos? If so, as much as i hate precisions due to the failures ive had, they will be a bonkers street turbo for the 3 litre guys if the same housing options exist.

If you hate Precisions but like some of the "insane power vs turbo size" things maybe worth having a nosy at ApexTurbo, be super interesting to see something like one of their 64mm or so type units on an RB30.    They seem to be getting results that seem impossible, even when you consider the latest Precision offerings...  most significant Evo/Honda turbo records have already been picked up by things running ApexTurbos and one of the Honda guys "downgraded" from a bigger Precision turbo to a 62mm Apex to try and make it easier to get off the line and ended up making significantly more power at the same time, like they cracked 1000whp which is mad even on a US dyno without nitrous etc.

Jesus the Apex Turbo website is terrible, I couldn't buy something with so little detail.

yeah, went looking for scientific purposes, and discovered that you need a degree in banging your nephson's sister to navigate. Pricey too the buggers

I'm all for new products and manufacturers but they can't seriously expect to sell stuff with that type of information. Perhaps they sell through workshops who can demo the product on other cars.

    • So I'll put filler past the repair area a bit to make sure I don't miss anything. Then I'll block it until it's almost level, put the guidecoat, then keep blocking until it's gone. Then it's still wavy.  In regards to hitting the panel, I saw this video might give more context - Skip to 0:47 he knocks it down. But yeah I'm sanding until the guidecoat is gone then checking because otherwise my filler is still well above the bodyline. Unless what you're saying is I should put guidecoat around it early, surrounding the filler then stip once it's gone?
    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
