First post here. Also, I've been reading and reading through this massive thread. I can not seem to find a results for the EFR 8374 on any 2.x build. Does anybody know a specific thread page where there are results power-wise for any of the EFR turbos?

 

Edit: Actually, nevermind. I figured out how to search just this specific thread, herpderp. The EFR 8374 looks insane.

There was post in here somewhere of a 8374/1.05 on a built 2.6 tuned by JEM. 30 or 32 PSI by 4100 RPM and made 550 KW.

Yea, this is pretty true actually. I only found one real post so far. And while looking at the compressor map and some of the results from other cars looks pretty good, I think there definitely needs to be more data at this point.

Yea, I saw that post, but unfortunately it's one of the very few with any results so far on these turbos.

But the tuner is too busy to book it in.... Need to wait around 2 - 3 weeks to book in time for catch can and tune.

The Built 2.6L with 8374 tuned by JEM making 550kw is my mechanics car, who previously had -7s.

He says its even more responsive than the -7s and makes an another ~175kw.

To be fair it would be quite good to have more real-world logging of how these EFRs perform, I don't see any issue with what Skidz is saying would be nice to have.  It would have been epic to have had logging  data of the drive we went for in Brett's car, response is subjective while data is data.

Look forward to intune's results and hope some data logs from a well setup and tuned EFR can be caught and shared

I was just showing overall boost threshold on the street in 2 gears. And yes just shy of 10 seconds to reach 18 psi from only 2k rpms is still real data that may be useful to some.

I think what most of the single EFR supporters are saying is that:
1) A BW 8374 EFR definitely is within the realm of a very driveable street car that is looking to make anywhere 600-800 HP.
2) 8374 will likely beat the very commonly used -5 turbos in spool and response even given their significantly higher max HP capability.

I think these people are correct from data i have seen so far and from driving my own car. In all honesty I think a 7670 is a more direct comparison to the -5s and i think it would paint a significantly different picture for you.

Remember at only 11 psi my car still dyno'd 375 rwhp. On 17 it did 464 on stock haltech base timing. As soon as I get my fuel problem sorted I'm going back for solid 20-21 psi (yes still on 93 octane pumpgas) and more timing advance to see what it does. Does my car beat the -5s in threshold so far on the street? Please provide data for comparison and we will all know. I am pretty sure at 24 psi the 8374 will easily start to walk away from them.

And I'm not taking anything personal at this point. Lots of things I would have done differently on my car so far and I'm still learning, but to lay down fastest time of the day with only 2 runs of the last autox I attended should tell you this turbo is NOT unresponsive.

As a complete off topic, wow this new forum software is a complete piece of shit.  I ended up posted that previous nonsense post because the software literally wouldn't let me do anything else until I posted it.  It kept putting me into a page midway through the EFR thread and whenever I tried to post or edit a post it put that text body in and wouldn't let me do anything but "submit reply".  Seems much happier now, but the software is still bloody awful to use even when it's "working properly" again.

Now more on topic, I can't take any more posts where HarrisRacing goes on about his own post without actually posting a link to it and Nismo3.2ish not doing a search... took me about 1 minute to find this (and about 10 minutes to post it due to what the previous paragraph says) :P  There appears to be no dyno plot attached, though I wouldn't rule out the possibility this forum "upgrade" has stripped out any useful data previously posted in this thread.

Harris your log starts at 0map indicating at tps of 100% but you really should show tps on logs as manifold pressure can show a lot of boost at 50% throttle on these itb engines.

*Was referring to the 6:45 to just shy of 6:57 which is 12 seconds @ 5th gear log making 18.1 psi.

You will notice the actual time on my logs is way shorter indicating no foul play from brake boosting and the like.

Try using the same boost points as me so we don't have to mentally interpolate between pressures causing us to guess.

Every time I read the flame and anger I really want to post that I make 400RWKW at 4100rpm (I do!)

......with a GT35 wheel.

So everything posted in this entire thread is laggy as f**k and must absolutely be shit to drive especially on the street holy shit you peasants.

But in all seriousness everyone's setup seems a little different. There's enough anecdotal evidence from people who have tried other things to say the EFR is as good as it seems and if you want to go top mount and don't fear anyone popping the bonnet then there's not much better to spend money on right now.

 

People getting X result or Y result can be sort of ignored. If you go by the Hypergear thread it's enough to show you that general car setup and sensible mods that people get different results in different things on different cars for god knows why reasons. What truly matters is when people test them back to back, and people going from whatevers to EFR on the same car all go "EFR OMG *jizz*"

Though I am yet to see anyone go from a nice Twin scroll manifold, Twin scroll rear housing, GTX3582 running 35psi and comparing that to an EFR and your power to RPM ratio is gonna be close. After awhile though you are splitting hairs and someone with 190kw in a MX5 has gone around on the outside at the track and is 5s faster so all dick swinging may be entirely moot. :P

^ one of the closest I've seen is in car footage from Powertune's WTAC car with a twin scroll 6466 to next time with an EFR9180... was interesting watching, I believe it's all on the YouTubes

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since.     • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product,that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
