pretty boring race overall. highlights were petrov in 3rd. well done. and like the others said, I wish the kube was in there. petrov is good no doubt about it, but the kube is a vodka swilling, potato eating, polish F1 god!

duncan, leave webber alone, yeah he had a shit race and basically just no pace, but that's par for the course for him at his home gp. whatever it is he just can't get it together at home. he's beaten vettel enough times, and been within a bees dick of him enough to prove that he's as good a driver as vettel is on their good days. on his bad days he's a bit ordinary but everyone has them. vettel included.

perez's effort was pretty interesting. 1 stop in a race where most of the front runners needed 3 is mighty impressive. if he can do that every race he'll keep making up spots. melbourne is known to be fairly low wear though as the surface is not very abrasive.

rubens 'move' if you can call it that was shithouse. he had no chance of making a pass there. shame it cost rosberg his race.

webber probably would have had alonso if not for his pit stuff up. yeah he was a bit slow on his first outlap, but his second outlap was fastest lap of the race to that point, without kers he didn't have much chance of getting alonso. even with the DRS. you could see he'd be closing on alonso down the straight but with alonso on kers he could never get close enough to make a move.

I think the DRS, while the rules are still a bit mickey mouse, does have a lot of scope for improvement.

I can see on tracks like Spa, china, Monza etc.. it really will make all the difference. Melbourne is a bit hard to judge because of the short zone it was allocated for use.

Redbull really is going to have to up their top speed if they are going to keep the more slippery cars off their back on the long straights. Not having KERS is really going to hurt them

Hahaha awesome clip!

And fantastic footage of bathurst, the McLaren just tore up the mountain like it was a piddling little hill.

Vettel sure knows how to win a race from pole huh? He's not so good when he has to fight for it.

Hopefully they sort out the drs soon, it just wasn't enough. I've been saying for years that what they need to do is get rid of all that fancy downforce, straight wings front and back. Then we'd see some real overtaking, not this overtaking-during-pitstops business that is necessary if you're only 1.5s faster than the car in front.

love the on board button bathurst lap. would love to see craig's lap too. not a bad effort. yeah with the corner speeds they can carry it really does straighten up a lot of the corners and it shortens the braking zones massively to make it much more flowing than it is in a touring car where you are a lot more stop start. it was a very conservative lap though, he was a long way from the apex of most corners sticking safely to the middle of the track. would love to see one really attack it hard using all the track.

Is there no adds with foxtel and Austar or is there still all the bs?

No f1 on pay TV. Channel 10 bought all the rights to it so that they can make us wait till 11:30pm for the race, even though it was scheduled for 11:00pm, and regardless of when it actually aired. They actually promised to give the sport the viewing it deserved when they bought the rights, so much for that.

That lap is so awesome, I'm not sure what I like more, the insane speeds of the f1 car, the fact it smashed the record despite being on rev limiter for most of conrod, or that that's what it looks like when button just takes it easy!

Whilst he certainly wasn't attacking, he did use up a lot of the track... the camera with in the left side of the front wing.

Wouldn't mind seeing an F1 race at The Mountain, although there seem to be far less overtaking points.

DRS on the straights could make for some fun though

i hate pay TV....why pay for TV that you get adds on anyways? im sure last yr all the races were done live (or very close to) and replayed on the following monday evening. thats enough i though. they've come a long way since the 10:30pm 4:3 screenings with no qually days.

Ahh yeah, I was talking about non-digital sorry. One HD has improved it dramatically

pretty boring race overall. his race.

In all seriousness Richard what f1 race isnt bat shit boring these days.

What is there to like about a motor race where the majority of the passing is done in pit lane and the rest of the race is nothing short of a procession.

I prefer the FIA gt racing by a wide margin, Its live on fox now and they race damn hard. Plenty of ex F1 jocks driving in it too.

So news is that Marko is reporting that Mark had a chassis problem and the car is in for a full strip and rebuild before Malaysia. It seems analysis of the data has revealed a fault. Not sure it means Mark will march out and beat Vettel in Malaysia....but it helps explain why Mark struggled with the car on the weekend

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
