The Build Of The Beast

Recommended Posts

Cool cheers.

Spent 6 hours washing, polishing and detailing the GT-R last weekend as it had been in a workshop for 6 months so not afraid of some hard work!

It is going back for some more work soon so will clay/polish/wax when I get it back.

Collinite is the bomb. I'm also a big fan of Naviwax Ioncoat, its a Japanese product very similar to Collinite 476 but is applied to a wet car and removed while drying the car. Zero streaks and takes about 10 minutes. Too bad it's discontinued now

Update.

Federal Australia have agreed to give me 2 new tyres to try out in the RSRR as they do not make the RSR anymore.

Putting them on the car on Saturday so now I can try them out for free and if I don't like them I sell them.

Indeed.

Read on some Evo forums that the sidewalls are much stiffer on the rsrr and grip is apparently on par with rs3's. We will have to see.

Also, collinite is being heavily tested by the great nsw weather we are having. Seems to be performing swell.

Got these guys in the mail today.

Out come the back seats and parcel shelf.

The one on the driver side was quite a pain due to that ecu there. I put a couple of washers on the front screw and then bent the other bracket so it would give me more clearance.

The plug clears well and there is no tension on the wires, so great success.

Passenger side easy peasy.

And then put everything back together again.

At least those child restraint holes were good for something.

Oh and sometimes people ask, can you install 6x9's in a skyline?

Yes you can, was one of the first things I did 4 years ago.

Now I dont have to dismantle the whole rear of the car to play with coilover stiffness. Such a pain sometimes.

Got my Rs-RR tyres yesterday. 2 RR on the front 2 old R on the rear.

Jeez these are good. Bit noisy at 70 but wet weather grip is phenomenal. Better than the RSR's when they were new.

Steering feel is great, they feel responsive. Im happy to get 2 more I think.

Child restraint holes through the speaker grill??? lol.

Read a bit of your thread mate, awesome car, love the colour, wheels, ride height. 10/10.

I remember years ago in my S14 drift car I had 2 federals blow out, while still having decent tread left, and they split across the tire, very similar to yours.

Scared the hell out of me, as I was in 4th at the time, so wheel speed was up, haha

So unfortunately not able to make any new record top dyno numbers today. But at least it's only a number and I'll see what the quarter has to say.

Anyway, after the new dumps/front pipe and cat back the curve shifted left. Which is great, more midrange but top end dies.

Jez just had to put the 1 psi back in that it dropped. Other than that the tune was sweet.

Soooo, the reason for the drop could be a number of things. No air leaks which is great but then again could mean motor is getting tired or the cat kinda is dying haha.

I will investigate further but not worried as the car feels great.

Green was tune 2 years ago on standard dumps, spaghetti front pipe and old post-84720-14474898611319_thumb.jpgcat back.

Red is new with beefy exhaust system.
