^ Your younger sister?

Mate's wedding recently - they didn't ask for cash, and had a registry (albeit with exclusively shithouse items on it)... got them a bomb ass Versace vase, tough titties if they don't like it

I'm with Birds... felt better than handing over cash imo, but I do love shopping so maybe that's why

had a holy f**k moment a couple nights ago.
cruising along. stop at the lights, defi oil pressure gauge (which i suspect is a fake) drops down to 0.

i saw all that cash flash before my eyes, and a world where id have just given up on this car.

turned it off and pulled over. had oil, all sweet. fiddled around with the sendors and saw that the factory sender wasnt plugged in properly.
started the car.
had normal pressure.
time to buy some f**king legit ones.
whats a decent black/grey faced mechanical gauge? need boost, oil pressure and temp
thx bbys

yeah, jo, the f**king idiot.

young love man.... and i hate the dream boats guts.

OR people already have the shit people are likely to gift them.

Also no one likes buying gifts..

This is my point though...gifts were a tradition and now out the window

People used to not have that stuff

People used to be bothered buying it and getting something they didn't have

Ain't no one got a Versace vase, nice move Ric - they'll remember your swagger everytime they look at that vase

They still happen, if people genuinely know the people.

People invite way too many f**king people to weddings is the problem, they're self indulgent bullshit at its finest.

They are the selfie of events.

Was at the mrs family event thing, one girl who I didn't know probably like 8 years old asks how long we've been married for.

I reply 'aw helllllllll no' get dirty looks from everyone lol

Don't think I've been to a wedding in the last ten years that hasn't said no gifts but a donation is welcome / leave your cash at the door

Tradition of giving gifts seems to be dead from where I see it

Says a lot about what our society/generation has become though hey

We see more value in people funding our shit / paying for our wedding / honeymoon than sentimental gifts that will last and be remembered. Maybe we expect a high chance the marriage to go down the gurgler, or maybe cash means more to us because living is expensive. Either way, it's an annoyingly faceless gift.

Think your being slightly cynical it's not about getting your shit paid for but these days people live together well before getting married so unlike ye old days they don't need house hold items.. Same as engagements people generally are all set up already.

I like giving cash it's easy & personally I find gift registeries to be very presumptuous who are they to dictate the amount spent? That is poor form imo. Especially greedy hoes who load up expensive shite.

we put nothing on our invite didn't ask for gifts/cash didn't say no gifts just a straight invite got 99% cash.

Friends had a wedding recently and did a registry. However it was online and split the cost up

So say there was a 400 item it was split into 8 segments so you could give them 50. 100 20 whatever

Good idea for registry in my books

Cash so much better tho

Do gifts have to be about what people need though? It used to be something to remember people by or a nicety that you wouldn't buy yourself but it's justified if it's gifted. Guarantee you won't remember who gave you what money at the wedding in 10 years, or what it paid for. Ric gonna be remembered for a long time and that vase will shine up instead of being spent on a holiday or the next iPhone.

I should mention I'm not necessarily a fan of gift registries either.

I'm saying it's a generational thing and that's why both givers and receivers are content with it. I bet 20-30 years ago though, if you gave someone cash and weren't a parent or close relative people would think it lazy and unthoughtful. Just saddens old me a little that that tradition seems to be disappearing.

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
