Had foxtel installed today....sound isn't coming out in 5.1 for some reason... Anyone know why?

foxtel box is connected to the receiver via HDMI cable, receiver is connected to the TV via HDMI... Don't see a reason why it shouldn't work as everything else connected to the receiver is in 5.1....

Make sure that your Foxtel Settings are set to output sound in the proper format for the receiver to accept (maybe AC3 or similar), also make sure that the receiver is set to do Virtual Surround if it does happen to only receive a 2.0 or 2.1 signal from foxtel.

Haven't even looked into settings yet, just assumed it'd work by default like everything else.

I'll sus it out now

Audio options available are

SPDIF digital audio output - AC3/MPEG

SPDIF digital audio delay

SPDIF digital audio attenuation

HDMI digital output - AC3/MPEG

Guessing it's something to do with the first or last options, but I set them both to AC3 and both to MPEG and nothing changed audio wise

SPDIF is if you're connecting up to your receiver using an Optical Audio Cable

HDMI is obviously if you're connecting it with your HDMI cable, so choose that bad boy...

Then you switch to the receiver settings for that input source and make sure it is set to expand out to 5.1 surround if it's only receiving a basic 2.1 signal as an input. Often you can hit an info button on the reciever remote and it'll show you info about what kind of stream is coming from foxtel

I opened an on screen receiver menu, selected 'sound program' then chose 'SURROUND DECODER', instead of the 'STRAIGHT' it was set to.

Seems to be sending sound through all 5 speakers now, just not sure if it's sounding how it should sound...I'll keep playing around with the settings...

The majority of Foxtel is in 2.0 isn't it except for some of the HD channels if you're lucky.

Yeah looks like it... I've got the HD package so not sure how many channels aren't HD, but the receiver seemed to be able to output in 5.1 last night...

Pretty poor that it's not all 5.1 from foxtel

lol

Also while we are on MP's mannerism's, I was listening to JJJ on the way home (weird huh) and they were interviewing Dan Andrews...

What finishing school did he go to again?

Only selected channels and programs play in 5.1 so the majority of the time it will be in stereo.

If you want to watch stuff with 5.1 sound just download it. It's cheaper and is generally better quality haha. One of the reasons I don't have Foxtel even though I can get it for nothing.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
