there is the price for it in the US. now we wait and see what it will be here. if it is 40+ they will be kidding themselves i think. Imagine the numbers they would sell if it was 25 or there abouts here

won't be 25k here. if it's 25k in the US then it will be about 35k to 40k here. the base model camry hybrid in the US sells for about 26k, and it's about 35k (39k with onroads) here. obviously there will be differences in spec, so prices will vary a bit from that, but that is a good base to work off.

The haters need to read Peter Robinson's views on the 86 in the latest Wheels magazine. He's driven more cars than I've had hot dinners, and in terms of purity of feel and experience, he rates it above the MX-5 and any current car on the market.

i know it will never be 25 but if toyota did offer it at a discount price (a lot less than subaru will sell it for)it a good way of getting new people to the toyota brand that it hasnt had for years

if it was in the low 30's id look at getting an ex demo after the hype dies down

its a tough one.. toyota need to make money.. i think they may rely on the hype of the ae86 too much.. its a decent looking car, seems to handle very well but when you think of it - more than 35K for a 2L NA with like 200hp its a bit much.. id rather spend the extra 5-10k to get into a wrx with loads more power / looks a lot better..

luxury model rx8 went for over 60k and only had 158kw. having said that, there were cheaper models (around 50k) that had more power.

and toyota won't sell a car dirt cheap to make money. that won't make them any money. it will move units, but won't make them any money.

Apparently there is going to be a BRZ Sti

"A BRZ STI would benefit from tweaks to the standard 147kW 2.0-litre ‘boxer’ motor that would reportedly peak power rise closer to 180kW. Other potential upgrades include modifications to its variable valve control system, re-developed intake, freer-flowing exhaust, and a raised rev-limit of 7500rpm."

Motor magazine reckons that the Sti model will be $52k which if it does have 180KW isn't too bad when compared with its rivals.

Personally i'm not really that keen, but the Mrs wants to get one second hand in a 3 or 4 years time when they get cheaper.

Everyone saying that either car will come in under 45k is kidding themselves, laugh and think that this is Australia !

I would rather pay 30k for an FD and spend 15 K on it.

Anyone who compares a modern car to a shitheap old AE86 is delusional. Thank fuck it's nothing like that solid rear axel'd clanger with an underpowered cast iron engine that needs borrowed parts from other cars to make it somewhat bearable.

Someone at Subaru must've realised that if they don't sell a handful at least from day one, it'll open the floodgates for grey imports, which will be cheaper than the locally sold Toyotas, which will mean lost sales for both companies.

Just to clear the murky waters a little, the FT-86 is powered by a Subaru inspired boxer motor.. Not a subaru motor. As far as im aware subaru has never used direct injection in a petrol boxer motor, this is why Toyota are calling it the D4-S. I work at Toyota and no matter how much i pester people about the release date and price, all i seem to get is mid july to august sometime and reasonably priced. Looking at the prices for other brand new Toyota's, it isn't going to be exactly cheap but what brand new rear wheel drive coupe is right?

When the release for the eight six was announced, Subaru was unsure of releasing the BRZ in Australia. Mainly because of the competition with toyota which would be released first but also because Subaru Australia is an all wheel drive market and that is all they sell in australia. This was months ago of course, someone please correct me if i am wrong.

I can't see this being any less than 40-45k, which puts the car in line with some of the hot hatches (ST, MPS, cheap-spec GTi, etc). The MX5 is also somewhere in that price bracket. Then there is the problem of used performance cars in that price bracket (VW R32, R36, jap imports, etc). So the Toyota/Subaru has some stiff competition. It will need to be a cracker of a car to compete, and early reviews/test drives suggest the car might be good enough to provide a true alternative to existing sports cars in that price bracket.

IMO performance cars today are too powerful and too fast to be enjoyed on Autralia's raods considering the increasingly draconian road laws. Somethine like the Toyota/Subaru means drivers can have fun within the limits of the law albeit at the cost of outright power.

    • Any recommendations on a decent replacement manifold that doesnt break the bank or require additional mods for the stock turbo setup? I figure if I'm going to pull the manifold off anyway to fix the studs might as well replace it. 
    • So I checked the turbo out today. Very minimum play at all just enough for the oil to take up when it's running. I did find an exhaust leak at the manifold. 1 stud all the way in the front is missing and the one all the way in the back is broken off. Front has visible signs of an exhaust leak. I'll fix that soon but that's not my problem still.  I also found that the nipple coming off the turbo had the hose capped off and a hose ran from the j-pipe by the bov going to the wastegate. I removed that hose and capped that nipple and put the turbo nipple hose back on the wastegate.  There was a ton of oil residue all through the charge side of the intercooler piping going to the throttle bodg. I'm thinking that's from the pcv. Doesn't seem to be coming from the turbo that was all clean on the pipes side.  Haven't had a chance to check fuel pressure yet, haven't had time been having to pull a lot of doubles at work. I did pick up some carb cleaner to clean the iacv but wanted to make sure I had a fresh gasket in case the old one rips when I pull it off.  I'm waiting on a MAF that was supposed to be here today but delayed to Monday. Have a double Monday and Friday and work all of next weekend so going to try to find some time in the middle of the week to try that out. Did about a 10m trip around the block today and towards the end the issues were coming back. Fingers crossed on this MAF but if not just going to throw a fuel pressure gauge in and see where I'm at.  Did notice today that I can definitely hear the injectors pulsing. Very audible clicking coming from them. Assuming that's normal? Should also mean CAS is functioning somewhat properly. After it warmed up when I started it the intermittent misfires came in again. Did start doing that before it was fully warmed up. 
    • This morning I carefully reinstalled the manifold and started looking at a couple of things I need to do.  Heat wrap arrived sometime today so I popped into the shed with the missus dishwashing gloves and started wrapping the first half of the dump and the screamer/plumb back.  Once I do the second half I'll be able to final fit the turbo and exhaust up.  Also pulled the harness out today and started terminating it at the ECU end. A connector is done, just need to run the remaining wires that arent in the harness - 12v, gnd and couple I/O
    • A31 is pretty much the same thing without HiAIDS I mean CAS, no improvement lol. Not to late to send it.
    • Thanks for all the replies! I also wanted to ask if wheels that were fitted on Ford Falcons would fit the 350GTs as well? In the area I'm at there aren't that many options for secondhand wheels and new ones here are way out of my budget. From what I've seen, most of the wheels that are available that were fitted on Ford Falcons have an offset of +33 to +36, with a centre bore of 70.5mm whereas the stock 350GT's ones are 66mm, can't seem to find any hubcentric rings that fit that difference though.
