After melting another gearbox at Phillip Island last weekend and generally getting sick of the auto I have decided to go rear drive for the time being. The decision wasn't rushed, I have been having many trans issues recently due to clutch wear, clogging of the filters and it will require another rebuild very soon.

Rather than throw more cash down the drain I just purchased a 350Z 6 speed for a reasonable price, and it includes most of the parts I will require to convert to manual. Hopefully no headaches with fitting it but it's anyone's guess what the car will do with the gearbox and tcu missing in action. As long as the throttle and cams still operate I will be happy. The speedo should still work fine as it works off the wheel sensors, as should the abs etc.

This is a similar kit to what I bought, I doubt the carbon tailshaft will bolt in though. I will have to use the yolk and cut the Stagea one down I guess.

Is there anything else I have forgotten? Fitting the clutch master should be interesting.

Yes, the only part I still require I think. Worst case I could buy the handbrake assembly from Nissan I guess but if anyone knows of a manual V35 wreck about, let me know please. :)

May require the V35 brake pedal itself also, just to make the pad smaller, although the existing handbrake pedal fits no problem...

you could probably get away with a button, but a twin plate will definitely be better, and feel almost stock if they are organic plates!

if i see something at pickles ill let you know.

im actually really interested to see this happen!

You might have to earth out the neutral signal into the ECU. I changed a 33 from auto to manual and every time I went past neutral the engine would rev. It could be the same for the M35.

Turning the Stagea into a drift car?

Very cool if you can get this to work Scotty.

Have you measured where the shifter will be wrt your seating position? Looking at the pic it appears you may need a rear seat passenger for gear changing duties.. lol. Could just be my imagination tho.

i think you maybe right, for the 350z they come with a sort of spacer styled shifter, but i gues it could be fixed with a simple v35 shifter IF it is a problem

Should be able to bring up those items for the 350s (handbrake, pedals, centre console etc etc)

Same interior style as yours.

Going to be the same console as a v35, isn't it cam?

I am excite. Plenty of v35 wrecks about and the parts shouldn't be too sought after/expensive either. The foot brake will go, yeah, the master cyl will be the interesting one.

Certainly looking forward to progress of this conversion.

I have done EF Falcon auto to manual and my R33 auto to manual, they were both straight forward challenges. This one is bound to have some hurdles....

    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools. • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
