I agree, I'd like to see the admin and moderator team cleaned out and replaced by people who will put in the effort. Cause the length of time some of the spam goes unnoticed shows the current ones aren't interested anymore

Unmoderated sub forum yes please

Within wasteland and can be called pond scum...

Those signing up for membership must accept a clause that there may be offensive content in there and they enter at own risk...

That sounds tempting, but I reckon it's a bad move. It's the start of a slippery slop. It'll send mixed messages and we'll end up with people posting wrong shit everywhere. I reckon it'd also lower the tone of the whole forum.

This forum is full of really good stuff. Don't bring it down by allowing porn and sick shit. It's not hard to find that stuff elsewhere.

the more I read this, the more I agree.

We have soft pr0n here, and it does the job of giving you a break from cars, any more, go search for harder stuff.

Well, if I was a MD running something becoming un-financial, who had sent out a please help, and received the response this has after 10 days, think I'd be looking for another job. 37 replies and only 33 votes - odd?

Over time I have received lots of help from different forums I frequent, or have searched through looking for solutions\advice. It has all cost me nought to date. I am not so much a social being in that regard. Since joining here I haven't been much involved, nor needed to be, but so long as I have my car who knows what the future holds. I see this as an opportunity for a bit of payback from me. Usually I just scan the topic headings in the V series Skylines section. Anything of interest will then be read through.

This brings me to the reason for this response; it was because I received the Feb Snapshot newsletter and read through it, I became informed of the situation to which this refers. This is not the first such newsletter I've received, but may be the first that I've bothered to read through. Having scanned the V Series forum on a regular basis, I feel informed in that regard. Thus I don't see the need to re- read what I feel I already know about.

I am suggesting that it could be beneficial to post the message heading on every sub-forum within the community in an eye-catching format, so as to have a better chance of catching the attention of more members? At least I don't see that it had been posted on the V Series forum previously?

The responses haven't been overwhelming, but in the past we've had a lot of help from people who do not especially take part in such endeavours. Hence, I see these responses as a slice of what the community as a whole will do and don't pretend the numbers accurately represent the number of members who will become financial supporters.

I would like to create some form of 'bubble up' within sub forums where the parent will become a container of links within the sub forums. Saving an extra click. I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to? I know we need to apply some thought towards how we treat subforums as I dont think they get the attention they deserve.

Can I suggest getting something in place ASAP which allows people to contribute? I think you'll find the response will be much greater than is suggested here, as you have alluded to.

I am not a heavy NET user, So here goes my 2cents worth.

I appreciate the info available on this site, being able to ask questions when needed, I have met some of the local members, and have been quite impressed, I find it difficult to understand who everyone is, a lot do not display even basic info about themselves, a bare minimum needs to be Gender, Location ( Important), real first name, Cars owned, Experience with vehicles. Length of membership,

Posts that display only login name and nothing else, can be treated as spam.

Asking for an ISP real email address is a possibility, although it is not often required by other forums, a simple verify address system is common..

Banners top and bottom I don't consider a problem, more a must have for revenue, Maybe some one or people could take on the task of promoting SAU to likely advertisers, The banners sometimes are useful. Other advertising on site is not necessarily a problem. A paid option for those that do not want advertisements.

Unfortunately a forum needs people, and it may be necessary to change the people doing jobs from time to time, a moderator, or administrator can become jaded and need a break,

I have contacted moderators 3 times since i began on this forum in regards to making a donation

Like others here SAU has become part of my everyday :)

How much does it roughly take run a forum , are personal donations a pee in the ocean ?

NOW is there somewhere i can finally put in my $ 50 ?

Hi mate,

It takes time to figure out who everyone is regardless of what online name they have. Rough location maybe but gender shouldn't matter. This isn't 1945.

How will having "real" e-mail addresses possibly help? Most of us don't use our ISP assigned email address. That's very newbie and short sighted. If you want to communciate with a forum member, send a PM. If they think the PM is too creepy, or don't want to communicate, they'll ignore as is his/her right.

Displaying "basic" info will not help you one bit when say looking for information on say why your aircon doesn't come on. Online handles have been used since before the Internet became popular.

Welcome to the "Net".

I don't see how any of that is important, or even relevant.

That is kinda stalkerish.

Do you expect everyone in woolworths or walking down the street to have a name tag with a bunch of info on it?

Seriously, guys, set up a paypal account. Allow people to just contribute because they want to.

Another site I frequent has a tipjar.

There's a link on the side of the page:

They it takes you here:

It works. Personally, I don't give a shit about accountability at this stage. If a portion goes to beer, blow and hookers then that's cool just as long as you keep paying your internet bills too.

I'm not very computer literate but I will ask this Q for a reason...

Does the mechanics of this here SAU permit the ability to tag another Member (a paid up Member)? If it can be set up, can you see the advantages as being legion?

* chatter will be more interactive

* more people will pay to join in order to be able to tag

* less strain on Notifications by being more specific

* permits paid up Members to be more easily directed to far reaches of this forum with less clicks

* encourages Members to have a voice if they've only been lurking in the past

* facilitates more Members to organise small events

* helps to prevent cliques

They're the reasons why I think tagging should be done. But can it be done?

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
