Hi guys,

Just about all manifolds have the exhaust primaries merge at the turbine flange.

Has anyone ever done a 6-2 then into the flange? Is there any reason not to do this? Anything else that I may be missing?

Thought this maybe cleaner/easier to package than wrapping 6 primaries into 1 area. I've seen it done for other cars before but not on our cars.

You are just adding complexity and taking up space.

I don't know what you mean by taking up space?

3x1.5 will take up more space than 1x2.5?

EDIT: Not sure what you mean by complexity either, it's 1 pipe crossing over the engine mount vs 3 wrapped around. It's also just 2 pipes joining at the flange instead of 6. If you do it right, you can swap between a T6/T4/T3 easily.

Mainly Space savings so easier to fit something like a GTX47, better packaging and placement of wastegates, less welds, can swap setup easily etc.

Check out Burns Stainless, they do some pretty fancy merge slip on turbo collectors.

From personal experience if going from Trust 6-2-1 manifold and gate to a 6boost 6-1 manifold and Turbosmart gate....on a lil 2L where exhaust energy is at a premium the 6-2-1 design worked better than 6-1 design. Better power and response...same tuner, same dyno, same wheels and similar dump pipe

It really depends on your goal but I prefer smaller diameter runners, 6-2-1 with less merge area to keep the gas speed up. This may restrict your top end capabilities a little, but most don't need 800+kw of flow anyway.

Don't forget, the wastegate path is just as important as the turbo, the incorrect angle off the merge may see you struggling to control boost without a 60mm gate, and perhaps limit your top end flow unnecessarily.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
