DarkestDungeon
Which R34 best fit for RB26? If one wanted to put a RB26 into a non GTR skyline, which R34 would have the easiest time to do it? I figured the GTT however that is RWD so I heard it was difficult to get the transmission to work. I know the GT-FOUR is AWD, can you use the tranny from the GT-4 with a RB26 or at least will the floor be more accommodating for an RB26 and RB26 transmission you think? Is there another R34 that would be better to fit or is it easy to use the RB26 with the RWD GTT tranny? Cheers, I'm in Canada btw and posting here because this forum seems to have the least flame out of the skyline forums. Kinkstaah
If you have a GTT, then your job is already complete, as congratulations, you've upgraded your RB26 to a RB25DET Neo already! 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468965-which-r34-best-fit-for-rb26/#findComment-7809590 Share on other sites
niZmO_Man
Is there any reason why you want the RB26? Unless your engine is blown and you have a spare 26 laying around, modifying the GT-t motor is the way to go. Kinkstaah
I'd go as far to say as if you have a RB26 Laying around, and a blown RB25DET Neo inside the car, the best way forward is buy another Neo and sell the 26. It's nearly impossible to say the 26 is better even on a blank sheet of paper. Neo has oil feeds blocked from factory, is strong as hell, far less complicated, and VCT. The 26 can rev to 8k, which is 500 more than what people typically rev the Neo to. There really isn't a compelling reason to have a 26 in anything, let alone swap a 26 into something. If you want that wank factor just fit RB26 cam covers and timing covers to your RB25DET Neo and lie about it being a 26. DarkestDungeon
Well other than the fact I just love the RB26, I live in an area with alot of snow so AWD would make it into a daily driver. Don't think I'd want RB30 head though, although thinking about it. Also, my goal is around 500hp and Ive heard the RB25 is less reliable past 400hp while the RB26 is still good to 500 before forged internals. Would it be the same difficulty putting in a RB26 into a GT or a GT-T? You want the Neo head on an RB30 block, throw the RB30 head away!! I have 400hp = 300rwkw on an RB25, others have much more and the motor is fine. Note my motor is unopened, standard just cams, turbo, FMIC and other bolt on stuff, so they are much stronger than you think!!! A Neo is stronger all over again, if I can easily do 300rwkw with my road car, a Neo will do 350-400rwkw. Use the GTT platform, the GT has basic differences like wheel studs, brakes, etc etc [can't remember it all] they are NA and so don't need the same level of strength, search on this forum others have asked the same question and been told. There is a list on here somewhere and it would cost you more than its worth to start with a GT. niZmO_Man
Not sure if the GT-FOUR versions are turbo, but if they are, just stick with the standard RB25DET. As mentioned before, if you already have an RB26 and you blow your motor, then do a swap. You'd want a turbo R34 as they have bigger brakes etc. Or do whatever, it's your money Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468965-which-r34-best-fit-for-rb26/#findComment-7810002 Share on other sites
KiwiRS4T
Another vote for the Neo engine - it already has GTR rods and will make 500hp easily. But if you are set on putting the RB26 in something a GTS-4 will be easiest. dr phil
R34 GT FOUR models are non turbo. But you can drop a Neo R25 turbo from an AWD stagea into one, that's what I did Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468965-which-r34-best-fit-for-rb26/#findComment-7810053 Share on other sites
Kinkstaah
Yep, if you have a GT-Four then yet again a GTT RB25DET Neo is the answer That said, if I could have my time... and budget.... again, I would have loved to initially just aim for 280rwkw via a V8. Being in Canada though, I'd wager use whatever is easiest to get to you.
