Hey guys,

My 33's exhaust is getting a bit old and I'm wanting to get a new system. I'm not sure whether to get one made or to buy one of the abundances of off the shelf systems online. There are a few systems for around the $1,100 mark on RHDJapan which seem okay, however I don't mind spending more on getting something made if that is the better option. Any opinions regarding whether custom is better, or some indication of what the best off the shelf system is?

Thanks in advance

At the moment only has a TBE, front mount, highflowed turbo and splitfires, but the exhaust will be put together with the next round of parts which will be bigger injectors (thinking 750), Forward facing plenum and a Haltech plug-in so I can get a tune.

I got a very rare moonface dump and fr pipe which are worth $700 new and discontinued used in very good cond
Good for low cars i would sell for $300
And have a invidia 3 inch stainless steel catback with oval muffler i would sell for $250
Very quiet system yet doesnt have the neck downs like most jap exhaust do which restrict power
All for r33 1507286412933.jpeg1507286465914.jpeg1507286491778.jpeg

Unless it's a titanium Akrapovic...I'll choose custom everytime. Mild steel with mandrel bends finishing at a stainless muffler. Never understood the obsession with full stainless - to me it sounds tinny particularly up high and tends to drone more. Not faithful to the true engine sound. IMO what you want is a dampened/quiet version of the engine running straight off the dumps.

My GTS-T cost about $600-700 to do 3" turbo back with bellmouth dump and resonator - I supplied the cat and the end muffler (varex). The mild steel makes it look stock/factory and it doesn't drone at all. Custom = close to the body - some off the shelf systems don't bolt up well if you have chassis kinks etc. Best of all, you get a unique sound because everyone else does stainless ;)

21 year old Nismo mild steel pipe brah. 2 years on e85, still going strong but is too quiet. About to be replaced with a HKS hi power with a varex on the back so i can hear myself think when i need to or blast out the rb soundtrack.

My Varex now giving me issues and I blame this thread.

Used every day for 7 years with no faults and out of nowhere it won't open/shut easily.

Such a good muffler, though. As mentioned before, my exhaust doesn't drone and my music/tyres are usually louder anyway, but when you don't want to be heard it's quieter than the factory system. I reckon it's saved me an EPA at least a few times in the vicinity of a cop car / booze bus.

    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
