Anyone still driving their R32-R34 GTR's as a daily?

Recommended Posts

Think most future classics go this way!  Scarey thing is what the general public think, ah....... its only a old car, probably clapped out rust bucket!

Unaware the Merc they sit in is only with a 1/4 yours!

Most future classics end up this way, and normally for a good reason.

Cant remember last time ive seen a celica gt4, imprezza, evo. All once very common.

I’m a weekender for sure. Went to hanging rock car show on the weekend and out of 3000 cars there were 4 r32’s and 1 r33. Like rocking horse shit now. All the boys only drove them weekends and track days.

I still drive my GTS-T daily. I’ve plans to drive my 33R daily at some point (haha).

With Nismo remanufacturing components, the support would technically be there for driving classics on the road without as much worry about breakage...but I’m guessing those who are paying the dollars being asked for such examples can afford more than one car or something luxurious, or want something more comfortable as a daily.

Personally, I can’t deal with driving boring cars in the daily. Every day the drive is interesting.

Nissans are generally really good to take a beating and you can definitely daily them for pretty much every component except the engine, but I fixed that in a different way myself..

That said I recall a R33 GTR being sold with 550,000km on it as it was used as a daily, and you can bet that 500,000 of that km was driving on a highway making 22kw, not 550,000 track miles making 400awkw.

As others have noticed I definitely see more R32 GTR's out and about on the street than 33's and 34's which do appear on weekends pretty much.

Due to Covid and work from home. I rarely need to have a daily car. But I still drive my 260rs when the chance comes up.

The problem for me is that you have to careful where you park these cars now as they are a target for thieves.

It would be nice to see more of these 90s classics on the road. I never see an FD RX7 either, mine is currently getting an engine rebuild but it was my daily driver when I lived in Europe with it.

Not using these cars is often worse for them than making sure they are regularly used.

I drive mine quite often. When I do, I hardly drive it in anger. I love the off-boost torque, and how loud my doses are, hah.

I've gone for days without even hitting any boost, even jumping onto motorways.

Mind you, I wash/detail my car after every drive, inc the wheels.

I'm not sure we agree on the term "quite often" given the above info....

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
    • Yeah, I guess its pretty easy to get to if this doesn't work. Just wait till next oil change and pull it out. I am going to have to do the oil pan gasket soon and thought I'd just replace it while I was there.  Thanks
    • All that matters is you're safe and you were able to type that post. Hopefully heaps of parts you can recover for the next shell.
