I'm sure you are aware but that ATS isn't a new clutch. It's worth measuring the plates in addition to the pressure plate clamping distance (stack up clutch without screwing in pressure plate and measure the gap. The ATS site has an inspection form with tolerances.

Basically it is now.

I have 2 ATS triples in the other cars mate and are quite aware of the setups as I've been running them for nearly 15 years. New carbon plate is 3.9mm. To bring back to new a new carbon faced steel plate, new pressure plate, one new carbon plate and new Nissan 24 spline hub went into it. Existing carbon measured at 3.79mm, so essentially new. I already had all this gear except twin pressure plate here, as the ATS carbon twin and triples share everything the same except the pressure plate. 20mm carrier on both twin and triple too.

All good carry on then!

Had a mate learn an expensive lesson buying a used clutch that needed new carbon plates. Luckily He was sitting down when I told him the price.

Best clutch ever though.

Yeah mate not wrong ! The carbon plates are $800 - $900 each, a spline hub is about $300, carbon faced steels around $250ish or $130 for standard and pressure plates are upto $200. Pretty much all out of spares now except for a spare GM 28.5mm 26 spline hub.

ATS is definitely the best clutch ever for sure 👍 Expensive, but the best hands down.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just did a compression check - 140 - 145 psi cold. Also cleaned and flow checked the Denso 1000cc injectors to verify. One is a little higher than the rest, so hopefully shouldn't cause any dramas. They flow closer to 1100cc at 40psi.

Throw the ones that flows a bit more into Cylinder 1, 5, 6.

I have 3% additional flow on those Cylinders (requested by Alex at Birrong when I was tuning).

Yep it went into 6. Before testing this weekend some last minute changes....

Nice, the 6466 is definitely a great turbo

Yeah I love it on the blue 32. I will say Precision have made some changes to the Gen2 6466 compared to my existing gen2 6466. CHRA and exhaust housing castings are noticeably different / improved ? I had to double check that it was infact the T4 divided 1.00 a/r exhaust housing, as the external shape is completely different, as well as the Precision turbo labelling cast into the exhaust housing now.

One big noticeable difference is the rear outside stud hole on the T4 is machined with more clearance now, so you can actually get a ring spanner on it instead of an open ender 14mm. This was a big complaint for me and it seems Precision have fixed it - yay !

Hopefully fire it up in a couple of hours - note the location of the OPR.

I just tore a t78 off an r33 and replaced it with a 6466 and I’ve noticed the chra casting had changed quite a lot and if you looked up inside they’ve completely redesigned where the oil drains from the bearings and made it more open and direct

Car is out of the blocks ! New plates and re-regoed.

New 6466 turbo on, 15psi on 98 and 15w-40 Penrite run in oil. After 100km first impressions:

-Twin ATS carbon is unreal and even more progressive than our triples. Absolutely shits on the NPC ceramic that was in it in every way.

-Motor is very quiet surprisingly and unassuming. Drives great off boost for a 2.6. Gearbox refresh also feels great and stock rear diff locks hard.

-6466 on 2.6 with T4 divided 1.00 a/r feels lazy compared to the 2.8 with big cams. Only running 15psi though, cam gears set to 0 and bugger all timing on 98. So far a bit of an unfair comparison to the blue car as I think the 6466 really needs a fair bit of boost and timing to really wake it up - my base is 22psi on the 2.8 on 98, 32psi on E85 on the other car.

I'll call it a win so far at this point. More to come - I guess so far, so good.

Replaced both door window glasses, inner and outer door windows trims, door seals on the body and lower door seals as they were all stuffed.

Installed new 4 x 6" front speakers and speaker holders while I was there too.

That's pretty cool to read!  Good on them for making improvements and not making a song and dance about it or offering it as an upgrade, instead just improving the existing thing.

WOW what a read and what journey. I await the tune and power figures once it done. Good work on this post by the way.

Yeah this car has had pretty epic amount of work done restoration and modification wise over the past 3 years. Still has nothing on the work or money spent on the other 32, but that has been over a far longer period of time.

Well here we go again, time to FINALLY as promised start the GODZILR build thread that has been in progress, or shall we say "development hell" for 13 years now - THE MONEY PIT IS HERE !

For more info from the past and the bullshit I've been through with this car, start here

Which led to this

Then this happened....

The car has been a major pain in the arse for years. After many different setups and rebuilds, I've considered everything from selling it to burning it ! (Well I almost really did as above....). But I didn't. I decided if I'm going to keep it I may aswell go all the way with it, and get it to what I would consider to be a very well rounded street / drag / track setup.

Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel now, as it is finally properly alive and running in the new engine as we speak.

I have now done 20km and counting....

Power wise it will be something similar to this car as its now the same turbo  but will still be a bit less given the long engine is not as extreme - I expect probably 80 - 90%

She's looking good!  Is the paint factory?  Looks bloody good if it isn't.

Nah not factory, I mentioned earlier the car was originally KH2 gunmetal grey and looks to have been changed to 326 Crystal white in Japan. I'm glad,  I hate KH2. I think the KH2 grey is a terribly cheap looking colour - we had it on a previous R32 GTR I owned. We resprayed it again early last year when the side sills were being replaced.

Going for a drive now for a couple of hundred k to just check everything.
