Yeah. Steel wool trick FTW. Some more expensive cans have baffles and stuff in them, the cheaper ones are just hollow. Idea is to provide as much scrubbing and surface area in the can to catch the oil droplets. I just bought a 6 pack of pot scrubbers, pulled them out (they sort of stretch out) and then used a screwdriver to pack them through the drain hole. I think I used about 3 or 4 of them, packed quite tight in there. Took 30 mins or so, but I guess it depends on your drain hole size! A hollow can won't do shit really; it doesn't provide any resistance.

Be careful though- the scrubbers will slice your fingers up it you go pulling too hard on em. Voice of experiences :P

regarding smoke/seals - check you have it plumbed correctly. It should not effect that side of things at all. It just goes "in line" with the PCV valve piping. I can't see why that would make the system pressurise.

Looks like I have a mildly dangerous project to do later, lol.

The only thing I can think of is if the PCV valve leaks with boost forcing against it (ie doesn't seal), there could be issues. All I know is my old turbo smoked like crazy with it connected & didn't with it off. And I can't see how anyone could possibly plumb this catch can in wrong.

Take the PCV valve out, clean it up a bit and give it a little BJ, see what happens. You can clean them up a little with (JETWRECK BRAND) Brake cleaner. (He'll get the reference).

Seems normal to have a little air pass through them when pressurised, of the 3 that I have blown through. Just not a lot of air.

I did that a while back & I could suck air thru and it 'clicked' as the ball/valve shut when I blew & I couldn't get any air to pass thru. But I also tried out a boost gauge once & couldn't get the needle to budge, not even 1psi, lol. So I don't think my lung test is very valid as 15+ psi is vastly different to my 0.2psi ;) .

Just fitted Dale's Piano Brace. Awesome stuff.

Now just have to finish installing the wideband so I can put the dash back together.

I can't believe how long the 'piano' reference has hung around, lol.

I had one of those little (300ml?), hollow Just Jap catch cans (cylinder shape) between my PVC and plenum on the NM35.

Every 10,000kms is was about a 20% full of oil.

I had it in next to the brake fluid so maybe having the top of the catch can as the highest point between the PCV and plenum return made a difference?

I haven't seem catch cans that are situated lower in the line work very well.

Is there a picture on here or someone can provide to show where they have hooked it up to. I was looking at installing one and not too sure where to start. I am going to install it in where the master cylinder is.

Why can't we all agree on something, lol? My catch can is one like yours. Maybe there's something to your theory about altitude...

Excuse the eclectic mix of coloured hoses - I just use what I have available to hand - function over form.

That is exactly where I had mine although the holes were a little different and I used 3/8 rubber hose with rubber grommets in the holes.

Nice installs. You mounted the can with the inlet/outlet at the bottom or do the hoses turn up once thru into the brake enclosure?

So, nothing collected in passenger side? Maybe something to do with the altitude, lol.

There'd be nearly no vacuum where it's plumbed into the intake (was yours plumbed in between filter & turbo?) as the only restriction is the filter itself - maybe a couple of inches of mercury? Gravity may help out on mine as it's mounted much lower. I tipped half a cup of sludge out of it yesterday.

Disagree all you want, still doesn't make you right. :P

The only thing that has going for it, is that the can would be colder, not being situated n the engine bay proper. Thus it's effect on condensation of the vapour would be greater. Still doesn't mean you were catching everything going through the system. There are pics of mine, but it sits in a place that nm35s have intake piping, you no use.

Hey dudes I'm new here thought I would give this thread a crack!

I have a s2 c34 2001 model. Has 100,000km on it so time to start replacing some worn bits. Got it stock with a blitz rice cooker muffler but I have done the following:

New shifter boot (Was leaking. Easy job!)

EBC yellow stuff front brake pads (so much better than stock and great pedal feel!)

New fuel filter genuine

New oil filter genuine

Royal purple oil (loves it!)

New gear oils (front, transfer,gearbox and rear diff)

New ps fluid

Boost controller

K&N air filter element

R34 NA wheels (had r32 wheels on there when I got it lol I know random as)

Big detail (guy who owned it lived near dirt a lot and didn't like washing it lol )

Ku31 tyres fitted

Wheel alignment

After all that the car is a lot better than when I got it! Got a genuine timing belt kit (belt, cam seals, crank seal,idler bearing and tensionor) and water pump cheap so will be doing that next. Any tricks and tips for the neo?

Next plans: coilovers, adjustable arms, rear swaybar and some form of different wheels

Also anyone know the best place to get adjustable rear camber arms for the s2 4wd with hicas?

Did my timing belt and water pump today.

Wouldve finished yesterday if I believed the how tos and didnt overtension the belt....

would appreciate a timing light that works well on the white loop down the back of the head to save pulling the intake apart (temporarily) just to get to #1 coil.

Was putting the 25G back together after frontal repairs. Did not get finished caus a bloody great python slithered into the garage.

I did a runner. LOL

Was pleasantly surprised when it arrived that it was ready to go straight on. I'd read a post by Aaron in a previous thread that they used to come without the mounting holes. Unless that was a different, similar looking one.

I like the look of the grill, but I'm not totally happy with the mesh. Thinking it might look better with black mesh.

Looked at the instructions for the EVC, but it'll probably be a couple of weeks before that goes in, I've got a fair bit on over the next couple of weekends.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
