You have an auto turbo.

You don't have a clutch.

You never take your foot off the accelerator to change gears.

Not taking your foot off the accelerator means boost pressure will remain intact?

So you are on full boost from the first time you hit it until you let the throttle off?

pretty much yeah. the downside is often autos are only 4spd or 5 spd vs manual 5spd and 6 spd. auto's often have not very performance friendly diff ratios too so that they can cruise at highway speed at low rpm and to spread the gears out a bit. but year basically a good 5spd auto, with shift kit, valvebody upgrade, high stall etc is bloody quick down the qtr mile. where they are fked is on circuit or on the road where you want to be able to pick the gear you are about to need. no auto can predict that.

Ye but even if you do pick a gear, if it's shift kitted - I've seem cars get some nasty compression lockup.

Where in a manual, in the hills etc. You can just rev-match your downshift.

AUTO certainly has its place in the 1/4 derby and you can almost continually do identical times over and over off a transbrake etc.

Where a manual requires everything to be set from RPM to clutch to driver.

If you want 1/4mile and just that - auto with a nice stall/transbrake is win.

For everything else, it's manual.

Think about it though.

A built/manualised auto and so on to run 10's with = 2.5-3k

Manual RB25 box - 1200

Factory autos do not cut it at all. Have thier place either way.

Interestingly one of the local track weapon (bendy stuff!) street cars where I live is an auto Supra with BPU, suspension, good semis and brake pads!

Yep, auto supras (turbo) with the right mods can be a damn fun thing.

The manual control option on those boxes is handy aswel.

I love my auto turbo, if I need to overtake anything I just change lanes & put foot down & the car does the rest... :whistling:

Also from what I know there was a 5 speed auto box that was available for N/A GTS Skylines? Why did they put a 5 speed (I presume its better) in N/A while gave all the GTS-Ts a old 4 speed?

5 vs 4 was for power spread. The N/A makes less power and needs the extra gear to get the power and torque optimised for it. The turbo has more and a much broader power and torque curve all round so can stay in the sweet spot much easier. And that is generally always the reason for extra gears no matter what the vehicle - and also the marketing advantage.

this is true - in addition you can also fit much larger clutch plates in a 4-speed than you can a 5 speed. increases the area of friction.

i have an RE505RA box in my stagea pushing 230awkw. with just a shift kit and a trans cooler it holds the power pretty well in fact. and personally i would rather the tiptronic auto as you can have almost as much fun in this as a manual - and as its my daily, traffic is a nightmare..

but 19.5 PSI with no drop through the gears, definitely has R8's and F6 Typhoons - even some jap cars - asking what the f**k is that?!

and mine has no compression lock, it drops when you want it to - you just have to pick the right time.

Only problem is the gear ratios - our 3rd is like a GTR's 4th.

picking the right time is a problem though. you dont want it to just suddenly go back a gear on the limit in the wet mid corner.

yep with auto you are at the mercy of the box choosing the gear for you, often delayed

but it does have advantages as other have said, no throttle body close on gearchange is same as flat shifting, constant pressure

My car isn't an auto, but I've driven auto cars before... Is this actually ever a problem? I've never had it happen to me. Surely you have a feel for what your car is doing, dropping back a gear isn't going to be a problem if you're not on WOT? If it drops back mid corner then just lift off the throttle. I dunno about you but I'm never going around corners so fast in the wet that if I dropped it back a gear I would be limiter bashing...

once you get back on the power it might...autos do funny things when getting on off the throttle/trying to hold a gear etc

it only drops depending on the speed your doing. trans ecu wont let the gear drop if your going to fast

but if you know your car, you'll know when to drop a gear, eliminates the problem.

Also, I hate autos but this tiptronic is pretty nice, unless teh car is cold on the way to work I'm always in tiptronic and you select the gear you want when you want. The only downside is occaisionally you're going just a little too fast to put it in 1st (and it's laggy as hell exiting a corner in 2nd with a highflow and no VCT).

my Soarer is the same....no grunt below 3000rpm + long geared 4sp auto = f**king slow in traffic

    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
