So, I was quoted $1600NZD+gst to change my Skyline crossover (370GT) system across to english, with everything working (except TV - of course) and NZ maps. This is from a guy in Auckland that seems to know what he is speaking about but I'm unclear if it's a hardware and software swap, or if it's just a software hack.

If it's a true new unit (and they don't want the old unit as part exchange in that cost) then I'd consider it... If it's just software then I think it's a bit rich. (I would BTW pay probably up to $750, maybe a grand, if it was purely a software update).

I'll think about it for a few days first. $1600 is a lot of money that I could have a lot of fun with elsewhere :-)

Cheers - N

Update: My auto sparky let me down, so Chris Rogers stepped in (thanks Chris). After trying a straight swap where (as I remember) all the connections fitted, it wouldn't boot up/switch on. Everything fitted perfectly :-( So Chris has done some research and it appears that my kit is from a 2010 AU Infiniti and has a different bus speed to my 2009 370GT. So it won't work. The good news for all you guys with a 2010 model is...it's a straight swap. Thanks Chris for trying. And thanks for the number of the guy who have made me an offer to purchase the kit off me. As soon as I'm back home (working away right now) I'll call him. So gutted!!! Back to the drawing board and interested in any info on this software upgrade available. Thanks everyone.

If anyone is in Auckland, please give this guy a call... He's the one I spoke to and who claimed there was a SW only update to make the system work in English although he said there was no working Nav yet.

Link isn't working.

Got a username for him?

Thanks!

Yeah - the auction links expire... He still has the car for sale and now has performed the conversion on the car and has included screenshots of the english language system, including a shot of part of the Nav!

Some time ago I spoke to a laser etching place in the Brisbane area the idea being to remove black paint on existing buttons (either sand it down or remove with acetone) spray black dash paint over the top of existing buttons then re-etch English words over the top in matching font. I Never got around to doing it to see how well it would turn out, but the place said indicated it would work quite well.

Sorry to be maybe asking stupid questions, but I am thinking of buying one of these in the near future..

What exactly can you use on these systems as they roll of the boat???

I realise that all the buttons and menus are in japanese but can you even use the fm radio??

I have an 09 370gt sp and the FM works up to 89 which works on a couple of stations here in Cairns, also the TV tuner seems to pick up a station quite clearly but is audio only the picture is pure static. As far as bluetooth goes I have an old school nokia N900 that the car pairs up to very nicely.

You guys think this will work on JDM V36?

I love my v35 and the fact that i was able to put in an aftermarket stereo. Doesn't seem to be much aftermarket options for the V36 due to everything being integrated.

As usual, the switch gear looks horrible... But to be able to fit a modern double din head unit would be awesome...

However, I am guessing it won't play nice with JDM, especially when most of us have JDM OEM Nav... :rofl2:

Talk to Chris Rogers. I just fitted a fully functioning AU Infiniti system from the wreckers. Blu Tooth, USB, Sat Nav etc, etc. Also swapped out the dash cluster for English (2014 colours). SOrted. The car feels so much more that it did!!! Photos on his Facebook page. I think I may be the 1st in Aus to do this!!! :nyaanyaa:

Hi Space-Man, does the mirror camera still work with the AU infiniti system?

    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.
