Leave little cars alone

I used to have a Mitsu Colt 1.5 Na manual and i gave it any GTR's GTst .... V8 out there, you name it ................................................................ simple for a good laugh ...... also to the fact that Cops don't give a ratass about a Colt.

:)

I had an N/a R32 and my GTR. I had 80% more people try to take me in the N/A than the GTR. To the untrained eye the only difference was the GTR badge.....

Funny.

I still got a fully sik VL at the lights in Narrabundah egging me on and reving it up... he stalled it and I drove off nice and slowly :) then he did a sik drive bye... compete f*kwit in my eyes

Hahaha. Couldn't agree more. VERY HARD to get lined up. Those that want a go arnt worth bothering with. Those that are won't race. Young boy racers want a shot. But a lumpy deep idle and the rattle of the triple plate put anyone with a clue off. Semi slicks, no stickers and a 100mm trust inter cooler give the game away to the wise and no one wants to get the pride and joy flogged by a f**king japper especially when theve just thrown down 80k. GTR is king. That is all

Was it the model with the 2 gear shifts? A high school friend had 1. It was the perfect little burnout car, just side step the clutch in first with the handbrake up and when the engine got tired and the rev's dropped you just shifted the 2nd gear stick which gave it another 1000rpm :P

This tread should be called:

"My car is awesome and no one will race me, well on the street anyway due to me not going to the track or strip where people will race me and beat me due to my car not being as awesome as I think it is or my driving skills have a lot to be desired"

But where is the fun or common sense in that?

If you want to race be a man and go do some real motorsport and post your times, or stay a kid, the choice is yours.

Yeah, I remember when I got my skyline I instantly turned into a professional race car driver! :D

....Lol, that feeling has now passed and I'm already driving like a granny since only owning it a year haha.

Yeah this thread's gone to Poo.....

Only a few people actually recognised my opening post as a 'tongue in cheek' statement of observed improved behaviours on our roads and a prompt for some discussion on what we think are some of the major factors in this new trend of motor enthusiast mentality.

This was not meant to be a discussion about 'kills' or 'owns', it was indeed to initiate some discussion on what has caused a shift in attitude on our roads with people seemingly becoming a lot more sensible. The Skyline reference was to lighten the tone a touch.

For those of you who hadn't quite caught it, I don't condone street racing, or intentional public displays of reckless and life endangering hoonism. I'm a mild mannered early to middle aged man (that's by my own assessment) who has loved GTRs since I set eyes on them back in '89. Mine is as perfect as I want it and it is used 80% on the track, with the occasional zip out on the road if it's gone too long between track outings.

I'm sure however that somewhere on this esteemed forum there is a thread about who was raced and who was made 'your mumma' on the street.

This was not supposed to be one of those threads. Apologies if my unique (some say completely weird) method of starting a light hearted discussion was ambiguous and misleading.

Indeed, in fact I would go further to say that, although I don't completely agree with the steps taken to enforce 'hoon laws', more specifically the threat of confiscation, destruction etc. that these possible outcomes are possibly touching the correct nerve with the demographic at which they are targeting.

I'd like to think that generally, enthusiasts purchase these cars. Of course they're enthusiasts, they buy them, they love them, they tune and spend copious amounts of time and money on them. Would a non-enthusiast buy a GTR of any era? It would be rare if they were not, could the same be said for buyers of other high performance vehicles? Maybe not to the same degree, but to a point I think so.

Having to pay a fine, or even losing a license for a period is bearable to a car enthusiast. Losing the car they look at every night for no other reason than to look at it, the car they obtain constant pleasure from each time they change its sound or remove an interior rattle, or make the most minute aesthetic alteration, this would be punishment.

So along with undoubtedly many other things, this may be a considerable contributing factor to the seemingly reduced propensity for people to 'take you on'.

Just for reference, here is a response from me to one of those who 'got' my poor sense of topic development. Cheers Terry.

I got your point and thread tone. I think the heroes have been slowly reduced, replaced by people who cannot drive and people who have the mentality that doing anything faster than 10 km/h below the speed limit will kill them and their families.

I've noticed that P platers are still the #1 heroes on the roads, followed closely by middle aged people in their commuter cars. Sort of funny trying to see a "stanced out" car 'trying' to keep up with me when I drive my Skylines. I don't thrash it or anything, just take off quicker than the rest of the traffic and do the speed limit to avoid traffic/retarded drivers.

  • 2 weeks later...

lol...nobody races GTRs cause they know there is a good chance they will lose....try driving around in a somewhat stock looking 33 gtst...every muppet with a v6 wants a race...man I get heaps of Mazda 3s wanting to race me, gawd knows why .......

But I do like to toy with em for a little bit... Like a cat with a mouse, I just tag around like I am having trouble keeping up for a few kms.....then show em whos boss... ;)

This. Not many will line up against the GTR (unless you have the obligatory rx7, sti , evo etc) but P platers go wild when they see a GTS25T , even more so if you're lowered and have a cooler hanging off the front. It is also pleasurable to show them the GTS25T's aren't slouches either :P

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
