Just add heaps of nitrous.

Before you do that, make sure your ring gaps are good first.

How can I buy any of these things you keep recommending when you won’t even fit it to your own car

With gtr fest and 2020 done and dusted now is the time to start removing parts that are being replaced.

first cab of the rank is the frenchies twin in tank kitF38C0213-397D-49E3-8D54-DF86F1175FFA.thumb.jpeg.02b9aeb5aa185cf738cb3b6f0c7d9a55.jpegfirst I fitted a 460 into the original cradle and put it back where it lives in the tank

then I modified the original top hate to take -8 and put some wire through that can hold some current and sealed them with some fuel resistant epoxy 5E28E925-ACEA-4FCF-B979-EDA896CBAB24.thumb.jpeg.9ccc3c57ef8e4b64bf4edf6ebcbc26f0.jpeg

Hi mate. Replace that shit ASAP. Please tell me you never used the factory return line, as it reduces down to about 4mm in the cradle, not the best to be honest. That is way too close for terminal separation when pumps fail. Could've been done much better in the wiring, just glad it didn't fail on you.

Aren't you going a surge tank ? Why the FPG twin in tank setup, when the single FPG top hat will be sufficient when running external pumps from a surge tank ?

Sorry only just saw this, I had the frenchys in tank twin set up with -8 feed and return lines and just removed it to fit a single pump back in.

ive modified the factory hat to take -8 feed and return hoses to a surge tank that I’m waiting to arrive and that’ll have twin pumps in it.

I wanted the factory hat back in for the fuel light to work again and the gauge to read like factory again.

The return port doesn’t connect to anything inside the tank it’s just open and pours straight into the tank

Running wires through the lid like that is a bad idea. They aren't properly isolated from the fuel, and fuel can get up and out of the tank through the wire. It's like you have glued a straw in (the straw has a wire in it so not as bad)

You wil notice your tank won't pressurise, meaning there is a leak.

Also - what fuel resistant epoxy are you using? Epoxies are generally not fuel resistant long term, you need a specialist epoxy like a phenol novolac for that. They also don't bond well to that sort of plastic, so you're going to have it shrink and pull away from the plastic fuel lid.

We have a modified factory top hat too in the white 32 with 3 x 6mm bulkhead fuel pump electrical terminals, an8 feed and return bulkhead fittings, factory sender, factory fuel light sensor. It's tight. It had a twin Walbro 460 setup in the factory pump cradle and revised it to go back to a single Walbro 525 in factory cradle. We feed the return in the tank back into the factory pump cradle with a 3/8" submersible gates hose.

I saw you were looking for a factory pump sock - an aftermarket version which is identical is available from Taarks/EFI solutions.

What lift pump and twin feed pumps are you going to use ?

Regarding the FPG kit - shouldn't the fuel gauge read like factory as it is a 0 - 90 ohm sender just like the factory unit is ? I want to go to an Frenchy's top hat in my blue 32 and know the fuel light sensor you can raid off your factory setup, and integrate that into the new top hat easily. Just need to add one more bulkhead terminal.

Did you say you wanted to give me your FPG top hat ? 👍

man ben i seriously value your threads and information. I read lots when i can and you have answered endless questions for me. guys like us over here in canada would be stuck without great mates like yourself when it comes down to the nitty griddy stuff! cheers hope all is well mate with the cars, just got all my parts so will be throwing that motor together soon.

I ended up getting my hands on a factory fuel sock, the feed pump is a walbro 460 it was one of the ones from the frenchys kit.

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
    • Yeah, I guess its pretty easy to get to if this doesn't work. Just wait till next oil change and pull it out. I am going to have to do the oil pan gasket soon and thought I'd just replace it while I was there.  Thanks
    • All that matters is you're safe and you were able to type that post. Hopefully heaps of parts you can recover for the next shell.
