Kinkstaah
All of these drafts, etc. Why not just have a face to face meeting and tell him how it is? No-one likes office power plays, even on the receiving end. emts
so my read. they hiring a replacement for you in NYC, they want you to stick around till they have cross trained them. So my thoughts, be nice, (never know when you need a reference) but ask for pay rise. offer to help on board the guy in NYC, face time with the owners is always a great thing and they can see how much of a company person you are. (plus free trip to NY) be aware that after guy is on boarded you are disposable, but with you payrise a payout is nicer. wait for said payout and buy coke and hookers. now the bit you don;t want to read. in all honesty the path that you took though this was a bit juvenile. using gossip merchants to promote your agenda..really basically you have shown that you prefer to go behind their back rather than face your issues. kinda like a 14 year old girl. all this could have been easily resolved, book a meeting with your manager/local rep, explain where your at, explain the pain points, and give a solution. suggest a lackey and a step up of your role with more pay due to XYZ. Never complain about an issue at work unless you have a suggested solution thus you look like a fixer rather than a trouble maker, even if it a crap idea they don;t go with it looks like you have that tried As it is you now can never truly trust them to give you a future reference as they don't trust you. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/458531-vic-wasteland-thread-150/page/47/#findComment-7587255 Share on other sites

dezz
"Yarra Trams said its offer of a 9 per cent pay rise over three years was fair and in line with community expectations. Tram drivers at Yarra Trams are the highest paid in Australia, earning more than $91,000 a year on average, the company said. Authorised officers earned an average wage of more than $89,000 in 2014-15." http://m.theage.com.au/victoria/melbourne-commuters-face-tram-strikes-as-tension-builds-over-metro-trains-20150811-giwblf.html Pls Dezz... explain to us all again how the union isn't being conpletely unreasonable Having no idea on the situation or what those average wages are based on (overtime, weekends, nights etc which make them not as overpaid as just a base wage of 90k) I won't bother commenting.. Yeah usually get the refund about a week before the NOA comes through the mail inb4 entered wrong bank account That would be the accountants fault if that's the case... Any idea who I speak to to fix it? ATO or the accountant? dezz
Update.... Got an email from the bosses son / micro manager from the NY office. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3j0fieeer2g2qwi/Screenshot%202015-08-14%2009.24.24.png?dl=0 How to respond, if I want to stay & show loyalty, but make them realise that a pay rise or similar would be needed to lock me down? Can you program a grammar / spell checker for him? UNR33L
Told ya the ball is in your court - these guys need you - the benefits of proprietary coding, a technical knowledge asset and no easy replacement make for an invaluable employee that can within reason bring the company to it's knees. It's pocket aces. However now is the time to be respectful...and to properly ask yourself if you want to stay there and if two changes, 1. A payrise/promotion and 2. An assistant (such as Leigh) would improve your working conditions and satisfaction. If this is the case, as far as wording goes, I would say that you want to stay, but with the increased workload over time (therefore increased stresses) combined with the want to advance in your career path (you are 30 or nearly 30) has led you to review your options, but if they are willing to come to the table to address these two issues then you see no reason you can't remain with the company long term. Something along those lines. Or you can keep playing coy, dismiss it as more workplace gossip. But it really does sound like they need you and are considering an assistant for you anyway - cheaper and easier to do this and a payrise than to get someone else in. You'll need to be clear about your intentions sooner or later as they will start to get annoyed after a while. What am I Simons glorified PA? 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/458531-vic-wasteland-thread-150/page/47/#findComment-7587291 Share on other sites
Leroy Peterson
ummm you seen the rhino on the skateboard sign? yeah its like piloting a car equipped with bicycle brakes. to me, its harder than a train. more trams on the tracks, complex junctions, being on the road shared with often heaps of traffic. you're easily accessible to abuse and people asking for directions. + drunks, druggies, dero's etc. Train drivers hide pretty well and only get called in an emergency. Tram drivers need to keep an eye on everyone. hardly glorified ticket inspector. but hey joey, if you cant beat them, join them right? it might be your ticket to VWLBC status Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/458531-vic-wasteland-thread-150/page/47/#findComment-7587293 Share on other sites
alr33x
Your email is fine enough but you haven't asked for anything or clearly demonstrated your value. Treat it like a negotiation so explain what you've done and brought in and how you can make more come in by doing whatever it is you do BUT you feel that reward for effort is lacking Mentioning house prices seems a bit woe is me business men probably won't care. In other words your going to save them money by giving you money to stay Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/458531-vic-wasteland-thread-150/page/47/#findComment-7587319 Share on other sites

Birds
Martin is on the money and explained it better than I felt like explaining. The direct, friendly route is always the best received and probably should have been the path from day 1. If he'd done this in the first place and listened to some people here who told him to be direct up front he'd have brought them an employment issue with no idea where he stands with the company. This way he's found out where he stands before he's even had to bring up the issue himself. Win. This has given Simon the strongest hand in the game. Forget emotions, only poor businessmen let their emotions get in the way of what's best for the business. Trust and blah blah - bullshit. Here's why: there is a ceiling on Simon's career at the company as he's a one man operation anyway, so there is no being denied promotions because he's a flight risk and all that crap - right now is when the promotion is being decided or not, so right now is when he needs to use his hand. What matters to successful profit driven businesses these days, in the age of cost cutting and outsourcing, are the numbers and costs - this swings firmly in favour of keeping Simon on board with payrise and trainee, even if the ultimate goal is to replace him (for now, but the longer you work and the more integrated you become the harder it would be to replace with trainee). The workplace gossip route has worked perfectly for him as it gives him 100% plausible deniability if he wanted to stay there and denounce the rumours as...rumours...and there's not a thing they can do about it. What a couple of people here aren't realising is that they don't know what we know. As far as they know, workplace gossip says he's looking for other jobs - not Simon. Hence they asked him what his intentions were. You simply can't sack or replace someone based on workplace gossip or you open yourself to some big legal issues. Once you start putting words to paper it's a different ball game.
