Solid Fanatec gear there 😍

Hoping we buy a bigger place in a few years and it has space for a SIM rig!

Despite being a technology person I have never tried sim racing, is it really any good? I just cant see how it would be fun vs actual driving?

Not cheap either 0_0

how did you find the direct drive? any difference to a v2.5 base?

I have a group that does a few races in GTS on a Thursday night.
Pretty good fun.
Dont have a lot of room for a permanent rig so have a foldable table
Just a cheap G29 wheel.

One of my mates made my real car in the game (close as possible, no GTST in the game)

I went from the ps clubsport version to the ps direct drive and it was a huge difference.

felt soo much more real. Always used it on full torque aswell.
had a buttkicker mounted under the seat and could feel all bumps and ripples aswell

to buy the gear I had ur looking at around 6k. But I made my own rig at work so that saved me a good $1200+

Thats for sure,
I did get my 32 GTST for $3.5K lol Wonder what its worth now 3 to 5 times that much id say
I know guys that have steering wheels more expensive than my track car, then add in pedals, Chair/seat/rig, big screen TV, sound system etc.
some of those hydraulic sim racing rig are between $10K-$20K!!!

yep I could have built another car for whats in my setup currently.
PC, Monitor, Sim setup around $7k but I've gotten a lot of use. If had a track that could use weekly I would sell my setup and put the money into driving.

if any of you guys wanna come try it out, let me know.
PS4 - Gran Turismo Sports Thursday night approx 7:30pm
We host private rooms so no random drop ins. So will need to be PSN friends with the host.
mostly clean fun racing.
we do 4-6 short races, generally no tyre wear or fuel stops, We do a bathurst own car (or as close to as possible) race first up which is in the N class around 350HP, super fun.
We have a FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/gtsoc
but mainly use discord for chat.
There are some serious guys in the group and they do league races on other nights.

+1 here.

went from a fanatec belt driven thing which was a massive step up from the likes of a g series Logitech but the DD is next level. It does need a solid base to mount it to or it moves around too much. The TR 160 sorted that out!

Its the other way around, should buy a proper sim setup and sell the actual track car.

Much more racing, Better competition, Much less cost, Massively more accessible. Infinitely more safe.

Doing actual wheel to wheel is kinda nonsensical...

lol Id have to say its the other way for me.
Sim racing still feels like im playing a game.
Even for one of those big bucks hydrolic setups with VR

Nothing beats sitting in the drivers seat when on the track sending it

Agreed, I don't mind games, but there's no comparison to sound/feel of real racing.

Even watching motorsport on TV vs being there, very different. Both good for different reasons but very different.

If I'm ever building a SIM rig (which I will one day) it will need to be a motion SIM.

No tyres, brakes fluid, engines to change, no fuel costs, etc. Can hit up Wakefield Park at 3AM lol

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
