Hey Rob. Yeah mate that's the one. Got it from RHDjapan.

Hi BK,

I bought the Garage Active washer / overflow bottle set. It shipped with two washer hoses. One goes to the Y junction for the two front washers. Any idea what the other is for or is it just a spare? The rear washer hose is a single piece that runs all the way from the bottle to a valve mounted just in front of the parcel shelf so is much longer.

Thanks

Rob

Hey Rob. Yeah I didn't even fit the new lines that come with them, still have them here as I though the ones on the car were already good enough. I didn't even unravel them to check the lengths but it seemed like a fair bit, but I'd assume they'd be to replace the whole lot be wouldn't they ? From memory the tubing that came with them is a smaller diameter than standard too. So you're saying they didn't include enough tube to replace it all ?

On another completely unrelated note on the state of these shitty times I'm getting pretty twitchy with this whole Covid-19 lockdown shit around the country. 3 cases recorded in Adelaide today could ruin getting these cars tuned. I'm currently holding my breath and have my fingers, toes, legs and dick crossed NT doesn't shut the border to SA this week !

Commiserations on lockdown impact. I'm in Melbourne so understand that alright.

The two supplied hoses are a bit longer than the front hose to the Y junction which is about half the length of the rear washer hose. I assume the intent is that you cut the supplied hoses to match the length of the three pieces required to connect to the front nozzles.

The rear hose has melted at points so it was coming out anyway and I have a replacement ordered.

  • 2 weeks later...

Obviously I made it to Adelaide with both 32 GTRs.

I am the 3rd car and 1st manual car to be on the new Prohub 3000 dyno. Quick set-up -

...and base run on 98 is 435kw on 22psi gate pressure. So far, so good.

Just pulled it up at 456kw at rears with 22psi at around 8200rpm on 98. We could make in excess of 500 on 98 with more boost and rpm but we thought why ?, Kill mode will be on E85. Time to start flex tuning it.

Wait  . . . is that the Mission Impossible theme music I hear playing ?

And the credits now roll !

Congratulations that's a serious amount of mambo there !

Now you can just sit there and do nothing . . . . cause its finished  . . . . . right . . . . ?

You'll have to take up another hobby now . . . like . . . stamp collecting or knitting !

Yep knitting ! I hear that's very therapeutic or cathartic ! !

E85, 32psi, 8000rpm limit. Crazy bastard wanted to go more boost as it still wants to keep making power :

.....Mission accomplished 🤟

Amazing!!!  Top stuff mate, that's gunna be one fun car to drive!!!

I’ll be amazed if he woke up for the second car to be tuned, I would have been out all night driving it lol

Running it in the Red centre nats drags and motorkhana in 4 weeks, so yeah I'll have to try and get some footage.

Nah 6:30 up and out. White 32 is on the dyno as we speak.

I'd be still driving it!  I've forgotten what driving a GTR even feels like!

Be interesting to see how different the two cars results end up

Just come back from getting more E85, so I'm predicting maybe 500hp on 98 and 600hp on E85 ? Dunno, but if the Trust T78 sucks a Precision 6266 might have to replace it.

Ignore the power but compare the curves. T78 vs a 6266 on a 2.6.

Good find Paul, that's about what I was thinking the improvement would be for spool.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
