Daymo's R32 GTS-T
DaymoR32 replied to DaymoR32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
So i managed to get a few jobs done this weekend, First up, i got the door locks out of the old car and into the new one, little bit of fumbling around to get the circlips out, but apart from that it was mainly hassle free. i then proceeded to stick most of the front half of the interior back in, i'm keeping the air/fuel ratio gauge and oil pressure gauge out for the time being until i decide where i want to mount them. the boost gauge will also need a permanent home as it is just laying on the passenger floor for now. they were originally housed in some makeshift gauge holder where the centre vents sit, but i want something a bit more driver focused this time around. I also need to stick the plastics on around the steering wheel and underneath the dash, i need to swap out the steering wheel boss and indicator stalk though, as some wires have been cut. so i will install them plastics once i remove the boss. gonna make a remover at work out of some scrap flat bar and a welded nut, i'm only gonna use it once so no point buying one. Once all that was done i set about changing the brakes over from the old car onto the new, (the discs are cracked on the new car so thought i might aswell get some more use out of the old ones). Also snapped a pic of the coilovers, they are literally brand new which is good to see! Old Brakes: New Brakes changed over, yes the discs have surface rust, but only because they've been sat for a while: I also thought id fit the uprated front sway bar that came with the new car while the front end was lifted up. unless im missing something, i dont see how this new one will fit, and i cant find any information about a 30mm front swaybar for the GTS-T so im presuming its an S13/14 item or something. and i'll also need some D-clamps to make it fit. comparison between old and new: So i chucked the standard sway bar back on and lowered the car back down to the ground. Moved onto the rear end, noticed the new car had a hicas lockout bar, and still has all the hicas stuff in the back, im gonna rip all this out and fit the eliminator kit from the old car. so i set about taking the rear hubs off the old car as these ones already have the tie rod ball joints taken out. Also got a nice suprise when i took the rotors off, turns out theres Project MU handbrake shoes in there! I also thought id throw in all the adjustable arms that came with the new car, i did fit the lower control arms, but didn't like the fit, so chucked the original ones back in. I've still got to reassemble it all, but will do that tonight. then move round to the passenger side and do the same again. Slowly ticking jobs off the list! -

Cheers, the previous owner removed all the factory sound deadening so this was the only real option for me. I’d have left the factory stuff in personally. A 9 sheet pack will do the floor, and I still have a little bit of a sheet left to stick a bit behind the component speakers when I get to round to buying some. -

Yeah same! i haven't driven her in a while! Nah it doesn't look too bad, especially if you get the fitment right on your wheels. I'm sure if you google image it, you'll see a few examples. i find its easier to google something and add "site:www.sau.com.au" to the end of the phrase rather than using the search button at the top of the forum. I think the guards are about 25-30mm wider or an inch in your terms. Yeah i wouldn't say its as different as a wide bodied Audi so to speak, as they have to fit in all their haldex systems etc, so there are drastic changes. -

Just a waiting game now i suppose! I haven't actually put it on the car yet as i'm in the process of putting everything from my old 32 GTS-T into a newer GTS-T shell, however it will be going to the painter in a couple of weeks so you'll see the alignment before yours hits the docks. I bought it from a company over here called KMAK aero, check out there facebook/instagram page. I'm sure there'll be some guys in America making some, as i reckon freight will be a killer! Yep they are a straight swap, you'll also need the GTR corner indicators too, as they have slightly different mounting pins. -

Hey Welcome to SAU! I have no idea about the answers to your auto questions, but with regards to the GTR bumper fitting on the GTS, it will fit, however where the bumper meets the guards/wings it will bulge out a little bit, this is due to the GTR guards/wings being wider than the GTS items. You will also have to trim down the front reinforcing bar as the GTR bumper has a bigger mouth so to speak. You can buy an aftermarket fibreglass copy that is the same width as a GTS item though, this is the route i have gone down until i can afford a genuine GTR bumper Guards and Reo Bar. Looking forward to updates, and make sure you start a build thread! -

Wiring kit arrived yesterday, so I made a start on feeding the speaker wires from the doors through to the boot, then fed the power cable through a hole in the firewall. Once I’d done that I put two RCA’s from the centre console and ran all the wires along the transmission tunnel. Whilst I was doing the wiring I got a 6mm power cable with an in-line fuse fed through which I’ll use to power the fuel pumps as the standard wiring won’t be up to the job. And then finally I got to chuck the carpet back in! I’ve also managed to get the door locks out of the old car, I’ll be chucking these into the new car tomorrow I reckon. Then I can throw the door cards back on. And then it’s just putting most of the interior back in place and freeing up more space in the garage! -

It said 8.9Kg's on the box, i'm sure i've read somewhere else that the original sound deadening weighs 13kg's. Don't really know what to believe though as i'm sure the original sound deadening doesn't cover anywhere near as much as what i have just put back in. Either way, i'd rather be able to hear and speak in the car than hear absolutely everything that's going on outside and deal with heaps of vibrations. -

Yeah I thought it was super expensive too until I had a look on eBay. Well I’ve got one sheet left of the 9 sheet pack and this is what I’ve got done so far, just got to put it on a few more fiddly places then the floor is done. Ordered an amp and speaker wire kit too, gonna tape all of it down to the floor prior to sticking the carpet and interior back in so it can all stay in place for future upgrades. Thinking about getting some 6.5” component speakers and a 10” sub and amp in the boot. Forgotten what music sounds like in this car with the original speakers having more holes than Swiss cheese! -

$210.00 off eBay, theres another brand where you get a little bit more for $20 dollars less, but i'll stick with the brand that's been around a while. -

8.9Kg’s of Dynamat arrived today, I bought the 36 Sq ft pack so that should be enough to do the floor and any left over I’ll chuck in the doors and boot. Just got to prepsol the drivers side floor and chip any more of the old sound deadening off. Or I may just dynamat over any old stuff that’s still in the car. As I don’t have access to dry ice, and I hate tedious tasks haha! -

Got the last bit of the aircon stuff back in, the dash support bar, dash, instrument cluster, upper interior panels all back in the car today. Put bullet connectors on the few wires that i had cut and taped them all up for a bit more security. Also chucked the alarm unit back in and wired that all up again. Feeling like I’m getting some progress done now. -

Had a quite productive day today, got the third and final loom out of the old car Then fed it into the new car, clipped most of it back into place, and bolted the washer bottle and coolant overflow bottle back into place. I’m gonna tackle the wiring and connect it all back up tomorrow. In the mean time I threw the drivers side wing back on, bolted the headlights and orange indicators back in place. So glad to get rid of them horrible aftermarket black ones! Also decided to throw the rear strut brace into the boot too Borrowed a drill off my housemate and put the power steering cooler onto the new car, (well I think it’s power steering as the fluid is red). I’ve ordered a box of dynamat to replace the sound deadening that was ripped out of the new car, ordered the bulk pack (9 sheets). Will do a bit of the floor and maybe chuck a bit in the doors too. Also ordered some AN spanner’s so I can remove the AN fittings for the catch can and oil cooler. Plans for tomorrow are to connect all the wiring loom back up and try and get most of the dash back in place. And maybe change the brakes from the old car onto the new one and maybe fit the thicker anti roll bars while there’s no exhaust or engine in the car. Feeling like I’m finally getting somewhere now that the wiring is back in the new car. -

Tackled a bit more of the wiring tonight, was getting worried that I’d have to cut and stick bullet connectors onto all of the alarm wiring as the box for the alarm won’t fit through the firewall. I am absolutely hopeless with electronics so really hoped To try and cut as few wires as possible. Then I had a little brain wave and hoped that if I cracked the alarm box open there would be some sort of connector on the PCB board. And as luck would have it it did. Means I finally got to use my security bit set that case with my toolbox haha! So now the alarm box has been removed, I can now remove the plugs from the white frame that sits in the drivers footwell. I just have to cut maybe 4 or 5 wires now, these are where the alarm goes into the door to do the windows up when you press lock on the key fob and a few to the alarm siren then hopefully tomorrow night I’ll have all the wiring out and transferred into the new car! All being well I should be able to connect everything back up and get the interior back into the car to free up some much needed garage space!! -

Got home yesterday after work, fed the injector loom back through the hole in the firewall on the passenger side and clicked a few of the cable ties back into the correct place. Bolted the boost solenoid back down too. Also managed to get the brake assembly of the firewall and slot it back in place on the new car, will have to do a bit of wrestling tonight with the interior side of the brake assembly so that I can get the 4 nuts onto the threads. Should be easier with two people. -

Also managed to get the ignition barrel out. i used a trusty hammer and small chisel to make a groove in the headless bolts. Then a couple of turns with a screwdriver and it popped off. also managed to tighten it back up pretty tight using this method too. I've used my ignition barrel as im going to use my locks from the old car too. the locks on the new car feel a bit sticky and like the key is about to snap. so rather be safe than sorry! -

Had quite a productive day yesterday and this morning, managed to get the heater core interior wiring loom out and roof lining/roof handles/interior lights out and into the new shell Also got the clutch pedal and accelerator pedal swapped over too. Feels nice actually starting to put parts into the new car, And I’ve just managed to get the injector/igniter loom out of the passenger side, this will go into the new car tomorrow night after work. And I’ve managed to take the intercooler and radiator off and drain the coolant out of the car. Trying to take stuff out of the old cars engine bay and transfer straight into the new car so I don’t forget where things are supposed to go. Got a feeling I’m gonna have to take all the old hicas lines out as the lockout bar is just a bar rather than an eliminator kit. Will eventually take this out of the old car and swap it into the new one too. But that’s at the end of the long list of stuff to do. -
GTR I just got one!
