Yeah sorry I don't believe that every racing team in the world was wrong. Hectic drifters want stretch because 1) narrow tyres are cheaper and 2)it is a fashion and that is about the only people who do it. I'll stick with the widest tyre I can fit on a given rim size except for 2 cases: 1/wet tyres. narrower can aquaplane less giving more grip (the long contact patch instead of wide pumps more water out) 2/dirt rally tyres. narrow tyres dig in better

hey red_spider, you'll need to pm me your email if you want the link.

I know that's not you being quoted mate, but it is not correct. No way is the smallest tyre for a given rim width going to give better grip than the widest tyre for that rim. Every racing category runs the widest tyres possible on the rim width for grip.

I hope the 295s can fit OK, I have a set for targa high country. BTW I ran the medium kumho V70A today...they were 1 sec quicker at 46psi than they were at 42psi. Strange. But true.

I really enjoyed today, good on Nulon for putting on such a great event. Apart from a cold start it was an excellent day and particularly result for SAU including: Fastest Overall Fastest Rear Wheel Drive Best off And from memory all of our cars in the top 20....I suspect we may have taken the club win too. Perhaps best (and most unusual of all....) no-one broke anything! Thanks to Matt for organising the club entry, Matt and Sarah for working on the cars all day, and to everyone who came down to support the club and check out the event -
Great thread, and good to see another GTSt out there Damn straight. And very few people run their cars hard at the track for extended periods anyway

lol a tidy extra 50kw should help that big boat hustle around a bit..... -
You can never register a car brought in for race/rally use. Unless it is for dedicated rally use under conditions that vary per state....not sure what the SA rules are Also, cars brought in by the manufacturer cannot be brought in under SEVS. So probably emo 5s and earlier were sold here by itsabitfishi

Ring And Pinion Gears
Duncan replied to Kirk Bryan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Don't change the diff in a r32 GTR, Nissan were kind enough to give you a 2 way mechanical from the factory. if you want it tighter, all you need to do is have a diff shop add some shims -
Rb26 Rocker Covers Baffles - Foam
Duncan replied to aero's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
It's a little late, but yes fuel cell foam will do the trick....I've had it in the race car's cam covers for about 10 years now -
If it was me, I'd give them a run, but like I said some people have had trouble in the past. Have a chat to John at Fsport and see what he suggests to avoid issues, I imagine he will say don't run pressures too low and don't run too much camber. Another option at a good price is the Federal FZ201, I would have gone them but I was in a bit of a rush to get something for this weekend. You can get them through the club I think....dry performance was good and the price was excellent.

well at least you got good value from them. If you are both chewing through pads you need something more aggressive. Hawk HT-60 are excellent track pads if you can get them in the size you need -
I've run both under my car. The mediums are too soft for a 20min race on a hot day. I've actually just bought another set of the mediums for my car for super sprints etc, I've found them good for the price. One trick is they work best at unusually high pressures, somewhere between 40 and 44. Like Harry I saw a lot of failures under heavy cars, in particular the commodores running 18s with 35 profile, a few let go in turn 1 at Eastern Creek. I never had a problem with 17s and 40 profile.

Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
you won't break a gearbox in daily driving, 400kw or not. they only break when being abused (racing, drag racing, hectic skids etc) -

Well with a bit of luck I'm ready to go for Friday, finished a quick tidy up of the car today and have the new tyres on. Its been run in, tuned, spanner checked, aligned and seems to run OK Is everyone else ready to do? -
Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No idea mate, I've never driven a car with a ported head. But what I expect is it will flow better at high revs at the cost of low rev torque. Same effect with larger valves; they are both about making top end power. -
Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well actually, I can't see why you would want a "full race port head rb26" if you are after response. I can't see oversize valves helping either. Also, why does the block need a tunnel bore? in an rb the oil pump is mounted on the block and the crank runs through the middle. if you move the crank closer to the block by tunnel boring it will not be aligned in the oil pump properly....I always avoid tunnel boring an rb unless necessary -

Yep, I think they'll surprise a few people once they start getting modified....we came 1st and 2nd at the last texi we entered in ours. And that Nismo Leaf actually runs a standard 80kw motor so it's lap times are pretty impressive compared to 400kw supercar.... see now that's the thing....at my level of understanding (basic) that's what I thought. I'm surprised no-one's done it yet so I assume it is harder than that. I guess nothing will ever make extra power as easily as a turboed petrol engine.
-
Nah haven't hit a dyno yet....I will go along whenever the club organises one but it has been a while now.... and no progress on making more power out of it, that's why I've stuck to handling instead. I'm just don't know anything about making more from an electric motor, and I'm not ready to be a total guinea pig....that's why I'm spewing Nismo didn't release the ECU to suit the Oz model
-
That's a brilliant result, well done mate. There never seems to be a quiet weekend at the track though, does there?
-
wow. that sump is going to foul on the road, don't worry about the power steering

Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sure, and the reason is that those guys are happy to spend $200k+ to build their cars But it's certainly not for response, they are about the furthest away from street cars you can get. They just need 500kw to get near those pesky evos. anyway, let the ego talking continue! no point talking on topic in the wasteland, or wherever this thread is.
