Yeah not sure where you're all getting the idea that his insurance will fix it and chase it all up etc...That's exactly what third party does not give you..

Third party, you hit someone and are at fault, your insurance fixes their car, you fix your own car. Someone hits you and they're at fault, their insurance handles it all, your insurance has nothing to do with it..

Full comp, call the kunce and tell them to fix everything, now.

Tell this mother f**ker that the damage to his skull was pre existing and not a result of you caving it in with a f**king brick

Uninsured motorist cover

Up to $3000 cover for damage to your car by an uninsured driver

No excess is required for this, but you do need to supply them with the other driver's details so that JCI can recoup their costs.

Similarly, with comprehensive insurance you need to supply the at fault driver's details, else pay your excess and effectively have a claim processed as "at fault", i.e. you might as well have hit a tree with no one else involved.

It's possible this guy has no insurance and is just trying to bargain/scare his way out of a big bill, or his excess is quite high, thus trying to get his mate (lol) to con you into settling for less than his excess. Good luck with it viper - though the chips really are in your hand - welcome to the world of people pawning their problems and responsibility off onto others :/

As per above comment I don't think you have a choice to refuse his insurances assessor / repairer looking at your car and potentially doing the job as it's a claim through his policy not yours. Whoever fixes it should do nothin less than a satisfactory job.

I was hit by a woman who was at fault, got the claim number off her and then told her insurance company I wouldn't go near their preferred repairer douchebags with my 10 foot pole (thanks to VWLBC advice)

Went promptly to Micolour, Mick is sorting it all out for me

have full comp with shannons = car gets hit... take it to uncle mick and walk away knowing it will look better than it did before the hit

speaking to 32GTR owner at sandown on the weekend... neighbours acorns fell on his roof and bonnet leaving marks reminiscent of hail damage. called Shannon's, they pointed him to a respectable panel beater... nek minnit - panel repairs + full respray for cost of excess.

mad jelly.

should have brought to me. did all 16 on micra in about an hour.

gentle love taps with hammer, some washers and an old wheel nut.

much easier than taking hub off to press

Anyone going to the monthly meet in couple of weeks? Can't decide if I should come.

I should be in for that one.

I've got a ball tomorrow night, so cannot sadly. At that point in the night I'm guessing I'll be in a place where, really, I should not have car keys anywhere close to me :P

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
