Getting close to the final tune. Boost was dropping from 20>18 PSI. Unfortunately it seems that for whatever reason there is a pressure drop in the current Apexi Hybrid intercooler.

Tuned with 21PSI dropping to 18 for the time being. Theres definitely more in it so will be getting a new intercooler in a month or so and sending it back January for a retune. (thinking Plamaman ATM)

Least she's back for Christmas

Verdict on the Racepace Exhaust. They cost big $ but was definitely worth it. All I can hear is induction noise now and everything rattling inside the car when putting it around normally. Just enough RB26 burble on idle and on the highway and it comes alive when you open it up. Very happy with it.

You going to get the OEM Intercooler?

Also interested to see how much the Racepace Exhaust is...

PM.

Awesome work man glad to see another one back on the road again. Seems like a few of the 32 GTR build threads have had great results lately.

Still blows me out how much yours reminds me of mine lol.

remember seeing this in racepace about a month ago discussing brake clearance with you...looking sick now, will look even better with n1 skirts etc thrown back on

also keen to hear exhaust

Thanks guys. It's a great feeling getting into it and driving it again :)

The damaged motor usually goes at the start of these threads but I'll take a bit of time out today to show what happened to it all those years ago.

Chris was nice enough to crack it open and give me a show and tell session.

Firstly it appears the motor was fitted with a metal head gasket in Japan but no machining was done. Okay then.

P1070417_zpscbc78936.jpg

Every bore showed signs of scouring.

P1070431_zps794c0c18.jpg

Every piston showed signs of detonation

P1070424_zps8825da3d.jpg

Piston number 6 has a section missing from the top corner of this photo. Chris has told me he would give me this piston to keep on my study desk.

P1070421_zpsa45dfdca.jpg

Motor has been sold to RPM so it's going to get a new lease of life RPM style. Godspeed.

So a shitty job of fitting the head gasket...

Where would the scouring come from? Not enough oil in the engine? Bearings are worn? An abrasive engine cleaner?

Would the detonation come from running too lean? insignificant Octane in the fuel? Bad tuning?

Piston 6 has seen better days and this engine would have been driven hard...

Racepace will bring it alive again :)

Shitty job of doing the rebuild. Probably a back yard job.

Bearings were OK I think. Scouring from piston ring damage. Detonation from running too lean. Might have had another ECU in there from Japan? Impossible to tell now.

Yeah, that would explain it.

Ah shit! Why did I say bearings, I meant Piston Rings LOL! Thanks!

Is Racepace going to use it in one of their cars?

I really dig this.

How did you find the standard airbox fitting with the cooler pipes? I got Trust piping kit and it seems to not fit as well as the HKS stuff.

No idea. Probably change over motor when someone needs a rebuild done quickly I guess.

The HKS piping appears to fit well around the airbox, mate. RPM did all the labour so I don't know if they had to modify how the standard airbox is mounted or anything. I'll take a look next time I'm working on it.

Spent Melbourne Cup Day working on a couple of interior items. Some dress up items (photos coming shortly) and Child safety restraints etc (for eventual engineering to get the car on the road).

Got a mate to take a few photos for me too. (thanks Nismad)

Santa has (in the form of my Mrs) has some OEM and aftermarket interior goodies coming for me too so looking forward to that :)

Sitting tight on getting anything major done on the car in the next few months. Deciding how much of the body I want to get worked on first before sending it off for engineering and road reg.

Nice!

Good to see it up and running again!

Looking tough mate!! Are you keeping the exhaust stainless finish?? I painted mine black for a stealth look :)

I'm keen to see if the cooler is your restriction!! I think I might have the same problem, Chris has had everything checked and it won't make more power, stuck on 360rwkw atm we were hoping for more. He mentioned possibility is the Trust cooler is the restriction or a few other things which he reckons is not worth doing for the extra 20kw or so. I already smashed a gearbox with this power so he may be right lol

No plans on doing anything to the exhaust at this stage :)

Interesting. I'm keen to see if I can get more power (closer to 330rwkw) with a new intercooler too. Mind you 360kw is nothing to complain about!

thanks mate. Thought I'd get some high quality shots of it before it changes a bit in the next 6 months or so :)

    • I don't know if you can disassemble the thing and put it backwards for different ramp rates. They're both "2 ways" or both "1.5 ways" because well, 2 ways and 1.5 ways are the same 'thing' I do not know for sure, but I believe the 38420-RSS15-B5 is the 1 way, and 38420-RSS20-B5 is the two way. In other words, I predict Nissan considers this: to be a 1.5 way. No idea what actually happens when it arrives/you disassemble it. It would be an excellent question to ask Nismo directly! I somehow doubt you will get an answer though, I feel you would be the first person to document what you encounter when you open the box and the internet would be grateful.
    • I'm going to slap an old nismo logo sticker on my spare one and sell it to the land of the free for a thousand bucks
    • lol, probably should have read further!
    • Well - they have arrived.  And they are easy on the eye to put it mildly... These only have three bolts - but for a start there is a key that fits with vacuum like precision..  And as you can see by my ruler, the interface is large..   I listened to a podcast on HP Academy about Dan (KiwiCNC) and I'm more than comfortable he knows what he is doing. R35 Bearing assembly should arrive later today so can mock that up for a look. Can't wait to get these on and get some brake pressure logging too. IMG_3860.MP4
    • I would be very confident that they are the same parts (the 2 different SKUs). It seems very clear that you can drop the cam in the 2-way opening, or in the other opening. If you arrange it in the other opening in the same way that you see any other 1-way diff, ie, with the flat of the cam up against the 1° side of the opening, then it would work as a 1-way. It can only spread the ramps when driving forwards - cannot spread the ramps on overrun. It would then appear obvious that if you put the cam into the opening "backwards", that you would get the angled flats of the cam working onto the "points" of the 1° side of the opening, which would give you ramp spread in both loading directions. I do wonder if the forward direction of the 1.5-way config is equivalent to the forward direction of the 2-way, seeing as the cams are flipped and the angled surfaces on those would need to be the same on each side - AND - clearly when installed in either the 2-way or 1-1ay configuration they are not intended to work exactly the same (the ramp angles on the 2-way are 10° different between forward and backward, and the ramp doesn't exist in the 1-way config). 'twere me, I think I would rather actually have a set of rings that offered the 2-way with two different sets of ramp angles, say the 55/45 of the existing design and maybe a 45/37.5 combo for a less aggressive effect), AND another set of rings with a dedicated 1.5-way opening and a dedicated 1-way opening. The 1.5-way opening would actually have the steeper angle on the overdrive side that causes it to be less pushy than the forward drive angle, like you see in many other diffs. But really - if this Nismo thing is thought out properly and all those surfaces work on each other the way that they need to, who am I to argue?
