Surprised no one has brought it up yet considering the amount of turbo threads around.

Not saying the company won't be bought out, maybe it will. Could be a very different company. Either way, (decent) performance turbo options just got a lot more limited.
I would have thought Honeywell would have kept them going through hard times, seems like the opposite happened.

Not going to be surprised if in a few years there's a sudden surge of demand for "period" correct GT and GTX turbo's to go with people's increasingly priced japanese resto-mod builds. I mean, somehow T88 & T66 turbos still have a market.

The turbo business itself is fine, the problem is actually with all the random cruft that Honeywell tacked onto Garrett to spin off the transportation systems division. Stuff like Bendix brake components because they used to have asbestos in the brake pads.

Actually, it's not that at all. The turbo business is bankrupt. The turbo business was spun off by itself, but Honeywell somehow managed to put all those Bendix asbestos liabilities onto Garrett on its way out the door.

Garrett is actually in some peril as a result. They launched the lawsuit, have since had to file for Ch 11, and will either disappear or go through period of restructuring/pain, same as any company that goes through Ch 11. The bankruptcy is at least partially caused by COVID-19 because turbo sales are down by something huge, like 40%. Some of that is aftermarket, but I imagine that OEM consumption went right down. For a company that was struggling for other reasons, loss of a significant fraction of turnover can be a death knell.

Weren’t they an off shoot of borg Warner?

They bought them in 97, then sold KKK to Siemens. This will be proper shit for the industry if Garrett goes down...

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
