From what I read of Stao's plans the idea isn't to build the fastest car in the world, but rather build a turbo to suit the common bolt on mods that most people do.

Lets face it, when most people chuck their first exhaust system on, they're aren't expecting to one day make 400kw, but we all know that the power bug does bite. Most people won't then want to swap their exhaust and intercooler and whatever else, they will just want to max what they have. And I think that's the idea of using the JJR 3' and the return flow cooler

Thats right staos plan is to use the "common boltons" that people use and see what sort of figures these mods can potentially make if pushed as hard as they can go. Which i think is a great idea. But i stick to what piggas said.. but then money comes into the picture so yeah its a two side story

3 inch for 400? Errr...

Golf ball and garden hose.

I read what was said as being the JJR dump was a bad item to use in general.

I thought zebra was saying the JJR is not "Good".

Of course going bigger is better, getting a mild steel system made up is by far the cheapest if you are on a budget.

What i was saying is the JJR dump is perfectly fine piece, the only issue people seem to have is sometimes they don't line up to the 6 bolt stock flange.

But if you want you can look at the dyno thread and see some people with 3 inch exhausts up in the >370kw range.

Stao himself has results with 3 inch exhaust in upwards of >370kw

Even one of his later ones is upwards of 430kw with 3 inch..

Mine fit perfectly fine, but that's just one person i guess.

Since then the flange has been chopped off, so fitment/gasket issues are nill.

And if the average person has the choice between a 199 dollar stainless dump and a 400+ brand name 3inch.

You know what most people would choose.

But i do agree, 4 inch would be better way to go, but not exactly necessary.
Its not really possible to get off the shelf 4 inch or even 3.5 inch for a reasonable price unless you get it made up for you.

Especially the r34.

I think stao's main market is the bolt on people here, and those people are not really in it for the "max dyno" number.

The best exhaust is no exhaust. Some of the cheap and loud exhausts actually makes the highest power. Due to the size of turbo compressor, the whole turbo has to be spaced 15mms towards chassis side. 3.5inches would be making it hit the chassis rail. well I see how it goes first.

or run an external with a screamer pipe, ain't nobody got time for a big exhaust :)

My car is now more quiet than a stock SS, until I crack ze gate

Lol, not everyone has 4k for an exhaust.

Tao is trying to make 400kw with the smallest of budgets, which I am all for. I agree a 4 inch may give you another 30kw, but bang for buck that's a riporf.

Not sure whether to start a new thread or continue in this monster anyway..

Looking at a high flow for an r34gtt. Spoke to toshi and he reckons for the street go the r33 rear housing but for the track the r34 housing.

I am keen on response so thinking of going an r33 housing and the basic high flow. Is that the best one for response and factory look?

Anyone with comparison to the stock turbo? I had a gcg on an r33 and that was really good. I see these HG turbos have more development so hoping they are atleast as responsive as the gcg.

Anyone got a basic HG r33 high flow on an r34 and able to provide the following

At what rpm do you get 18psi in :

2nd gear

3rd gear

4th gear

What power are you getting?

The stock r34 turbo is pretty responsive. I'm able to hit about 8psi by about 2300 in 4th I think. Would the highflow with the smaller housing be about the same (I.e would have bigger wheels but smaller housing so spool up rpm would be similar?)

Toshi reckons the high flow would be full boost by about 4k rpm but on the r33 with the gcg I had full boost by about 3.5rpm so still deciding if I should go gcg or HG.

Many thanks

Try the search function mate, here's a couple I was able to dig up pretty quick

John Reco's R33 skyline. standard engine with cooler, exhaust, fuel and ecu mods. 310rwkws @ 20psi E85 fuel.

I also got a print of John reco's R33, thats the first time I had a proper look at his result. It is running our standard 21U high flow on E85 fuel, and I'm amazed of how responsive it is.

Result sent in by another member that is currently using our 21U high flow running E85 fuel making a super responsive 311rwkws on 20psi internally gated. That is on a R33 Rb25det stock engine.

As you can see they make a little over 300rwkw on E85 and the are pretty responsive

Current state my ss2 makes 18psi at 4100

but its under the knife atm and should make 20 by 4000 on flex fuel and external gate... my mates r34 gtt has the u21 (r33 highflow from hypergear) makes full boost at 3700ish on e85 19psi

any of the highflows will be brilliant and the ss is a whole another level of aggressive boosting

if you want response the u21(33 highflow) is your best bet, its not as responsive as stock but its as good as itl get. The op6 (34 highflow) is a tad laggyer (300ish rpm give or take depending on suporting) but has a higher power output. but If you look at going for the op6 i would highly recommend concidering spending a bit more and go for an ss2 Its an unreal street turbo and bolts straight onto the r34 turbo mani and lines up with stock dumps

My 2 cents cheers!

I've had both the OP6 and 21U turbine housings on my R33, look up my results in this thread and make a decision.

If you're used to full boost by 3.5k, going for the 21U version is a no-brainer, especially for a street car. 500rpm difference in response doesn't sound like much, but it's a big difference.

The 21U should be well and truly on full boost by 3,500rpm, mine hits it by 3,400 and is running PULP.

Hi, I've been MIA for few weeks due to an small operation and now back on business. I'm catching up with every one's jobs, they will be all out this week, I apologise for the delay

21ucomps.jpg

The R34 test rig is in progress and will be tuned with the latest SS2 prototype this friday, hopping for 300rwkws+ with 20psi by 3500RPM.

Dyno reading from a high flowed OP6 turbocharger, making 275rwkws internally gated @17psi, pump fuel:

And posting a small video from twin ATR43SS2.5 powered LS1 V8 maxing out the dyno at 12psi, its apparently making over 1000Mn of torque. Their dyno is getting upgraded, hopefully seeing over 1000HP+ on a full run.

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
