The fuel stations have been so slow with the E85 rollout and it sounds like the Caltex version that is coming out won't even have a fixed ethanol percentage so I was looking at other options. Is it possible to buy bulk quantities of ethanol to mix up your own?

Haha, youre joking right? Pissheads have ruined it for us...

The Caltex blends will change slightly but nothing that cant be tuned around, just run the winter blend a little rich. It will only change once a year. Once you convert you will be glad for the E70 cold start benefits.

Caltex have been doing pretty well and plan to have 100 servos with Eflex in less than a year. Thats a lot better than the LPG rollout was and not taking into account any other brands that may jump on the green bandwagon.

And with Mobil closing down many servos in the near future and independents taking over many of their old stores i feel it will be a case of all we have to do is ask as these old servos get revamped and new pumps put in etc....it wont take long...

the new series 2 commodore is capable of running up to E85 ethanol blend and i dare say that ford will follow suit with the falcon, so once you see more of these cars on the road then you will see more ethanol blend fuels around the place.

I think they call it flexifuel or something like that don't they ?

I think it would be interesting to see how the major manufacturers react to the widespread availability of E85 in terms of their engineering decisions with mapping and performance targets etc ?

You can buy it from Rocket and mix your own blend :P

Are you talking about methanol? I didnt see any straight ethanol there, it cant be sold in Australia unfortunately. I wish I had a mate at CSR though.

so if its not going to be one percentage each time you get it how will that effect those who have tuned their car to run on say e85, i guess the correction maps will take care of small changes or will it just be %70 ethanol all the time?

It will change slowly throughout the year from e70 to e85, depending on the season. Not an issue if you tune for e85, just runs a bit rich in winter which helps with the cold starts.

2 maps would be a good option but you would have to run a wideband or ethanol content gauge to tell you they have changed. I think there will be aftermarket ecu support for Flex fuel sensors soon which would be the best way of mapping.

YOU KEEP THE TUNE VERY SOFT. you should only be leaning on the tune if you are buying the stuff drummed with data sheets.

Platinum Racing Parts, E85 mix with premium unleaded, E85 with 106 race fuel mix, E90 with premium and 106 race fuel and E100, in 20L 60L and 200L.

I just bought 200L of E90 which with 106 racefuel mix gives you 117 ocane and 30% oxygen.

Do they have online store? Link?

Out this way all the Mobil SS's have changed over to Caltex, all we have is Shell and Caltex and a few BP scattered around the place.

In the town I live in, we used to have 7 fuel outlets [shell, Mobil, BP, Ampol, Caltex and an Esso]. A decade later and we have three, two Caltex and a Shell.

And no choice really, they are all selling the same range and type.

I'd say that E85 will be here in another 10-20 years :), it will be at least 5 years though, lucky I've got WMI and don't really care.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
