Someone previously posted on here (I think it was Ozz) on an SR20 they were virtually identical - you'd be forgiven thinking they were the same turbo on different dyno runs.

I cant see any reason to buy a gtx when you can get the bigger model gt turbo for a smaller cost. Is there something im missing??

For those interested, I found a GTX3076 result on toymods forum. The result was again a very lazy looking 3076... Power building very progressively and making SFA around the 4k mark, with a final result of around 300rwkw from a VVTI 1JZ.

Seen better results of .63 35Rs to be honest.. On non VVTI motors. Not keen.

VVTI 1j's have very small ports though, I was surprised when I compared them to the VQ's.

I was planning to go for the gtx3076 but looking at the flow island it wasnt any wider than the GT3076, much higher though so the wheel should be much more efficient at high boost. Instead I went the GTX3071 as the efficiency should be much better for more of the rev range. Thats my theory anyway.

I should have it tuned next week hopefully, I have plenty of work to do before then though.

Why change what isnt broken Joey. Garrett have built a succesful business on failed products.

Simply find a way to deny 99.9999999% of warranty claims and sell the customer a new product every time the old one shits itself.

so what is the point of the GTX then?

is it jut a big fail on garret's behalf? or is there actually an application where they are superior to the GT range?

Possibly where running race fuels (or E85) and a gut full of boost.

But for the average enthusiest using pump fuel, the selection of the correct GT series turbo for the application will likely net a better overall power curve.

well it is Garrett so i very much doubt its a fail, could be some time before its win is found though through different setups and tuning.

i was reading some old threads finding info on my old tech to4s turbo and many were actually skeptical when the GT series of turbos first came out and thought the old tech was bettter. I mean even gcg thought they could relable a to4s and badge it a 3071r like nobody would notice a difference, no doubt they made some money doing this but they were obviously not as good and the line was dropped..Now the GT is probably considered the benchmar of modern turbos, so just wait and see I think there will no doubt be surprises in store

Sorry to hijack; just dont get this -again a MONSTER torque figure close to 1300Nm, yet I see many skylines with very similar mods making in the 500-600Nm range in the RB25 dyno thread???? Mine made 545Nm and 186rwkw on stock turbo 12psi with supporting mods and I was doubtful of the torque figure as I think it was too high... people with twice as much power have made barely more torque than that, yet there are other people with huge torque figure in the 800-1000Nm range.. anyone care to pour a bit of light on this?

I think the design of those comp wheels are not really perfect for response. The blades are too tall and too straight, means there will be lot more surface area catching greater amount of counter forced under boost, requires more turbine flow to turn, result in lag. But possibly more flow per rotation resulting more power with less boost.

There is nothing wrong with the GT turbine wheels, and it is possible to generate more power and better response using more appropriate comp wheel design.

Having said that the GTX turbos are not specifically built for small nissan engines, they could be performing perfectly fine on some thing like a XR6 turbo.

Yeah, it is true 1Js all have tiny ports.. But each to their own, we can all hold our own opinions to what works best etc. They are not power shy, so I do not think it will change much when considering what the said turbo is capable of.

The other comments regarding the point of the GTX range I cannot argue with.. Just like in the EFR thread, BB cores were debated as a marketing ploy, I feel the same for the GTX range and cannot believe the hype people on this forum are creating by recommending GTX3071s left right and centre.

Again it is an each to their own scenario in my eyes, I do not find the GTX range attractive yet Im sure someone does.. Which will end up being the pioneer for the turbos future rep. I dont think its fair to recommend such an item without any experience with it, and I would regret having done so myself in the past.

Anyway.. Back to exploring Jakarta.

It isn't measuring engine torque that is why, all depends how the dyno is set up

The GTX3071 looks the pick with the wider islands but if it doesn't perform any better than a garden variety 76mm GT wheel then why spend the extra coin.

I think most of us where expecting GT3076 like power with earlier spool from the 71mm GTX wheel.

Personally I would not have chosen the GTX3076.

Well going from the tech specs it would indeed look like the GTX3071 would be perfect for an RB25. It appears to be made for a 2.5L engine.

The island is fattest at 2.5 pressure ratio (about 1.1-1.2bar intake pressure), and goes from 210 to 550lb flow. This should match the 60mm turbine wheel very well.

I've got to look into this further. If only they made a 0.7 housing option with a bigger waste gate and sectioned it off (ala GT2835 style).

I what how a GTX3076 at around 20psi would be like on a RB26\30?

Maybe that would be a better match than a RB25?

IF these turbos make more torque then maybe they are more sensitive to capacities.

Oh, and to stir you all up, here is a comparison:

Stock RB25, GT3076 (GT3037), 0.63 turbine housing, 0.6 comp cover, 18psi

This tune took me one hour, I later smoothed out all the bumps. (did a quick tune before a dyno day)

I love the way the torque curve gets up and stays up, and owns anyones ass in the car.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
