I only have 3rd party. Does this change anything? I'd assume not seeing as I was not at fault

doesnt change anything,

The difference is that you are chasing up the person for the insurance claim number instead of Justcar.

edit: what Titan said

Dezz that sounds a bit shit, like they were giving you a mess around...I'd have told em where to go if I gave a shit about the car. Did they do at least do a decent repair?

People: your "dispute" is with the person who hit you / you hit. Insurance companies are merely a proxy for those involved in an accident. Hypothetically, if someone wrote off your 10k car and they were only insured third party for 8k, you would still be pursuing the other 2k from that individual, not their insurance company.

With this in mind, legal resolution must occur between the parties involved in the accident. Therefore, those involved can only elect to have an insurance company represent them, i.e. they make a claim and the insurance company effectively acquires the debt and legal proceedings from their customer for as far as they are covered in their PDS.

Now, if you are not at fault, another party's insurance company has no right to dictate to a non-customer what course of action you must take for resolution (including where it is repaired), beyond what the law states you are required to do. You have no contract with this insurance company, nor have you purhased a product from them with a PDS that you have agreed to. As a proxy for their customer, all they can do is argue that your quote(s) is unreasonable and challenge it in a judicial hearing aka VCAT. This costs $35 for a hearing. VCAT will then obtain quotes themselves from their own assessors / panel beaters to decide if your quote was actually reasonable or unreasonably high. It is the same deal when no insurance companies are involved and the parties disagree on quotes - insurance being involved doesn't change how the law works in dispute resolution.

Most insurance companies won't bother taking it this far if your quote is a grand or so higher than theirs, as they have to pay to send someone to VCAT to argue a case they could lose. Some just try to make it sound like you have to do as they say, because, if they can save even $100 on a quote, the assessor looks good to his boss.

Above all, if you are not satisfied with any repairs, you can challenge this in VCAT also. Status quo must be restored, leaving your vehicle how it was pre-accident and you without loss/damage.

im picking up a momo steering wheel tonight (same as R33 one) but thinking price is a bit steep at $450. theyre almost comon on the subarus and look the same, just not sure if the boss is the same. Seems the going price is $350 but could be a low blow. hmmmm im even driving to werribee to get it, surely thats worth something?

If I cared about the car I would've taken it further and would have had it repaired wherever I wanted, but being an excel all I cared about was that I was given a free hire car.

When I spoke to the other guys insurance company they tried to get out of that, telling me it's not their responsibility... They must use that tactic in the hope that people just accept it and move on. I lost my shit and all of a sudden their policy was that they will reimburse me for a hire car for costs that are 'fair and reasonable'.

That statement caused me to lose my shit once again when I requested to know how much 'fair and reasonable' was. In the end I got a car and wasn't too inconvenienced apart from having to drop my car off at the repairer.

The repairs were fine, and come with a lifetime warranty so pretty good really.

Wouldn't pay that much. They are worth at least a few bucks though and they're one of the few bits that are NLA. Subaru boss is different I think.

Coupes are more expensive yes. I completely forgot about getting some prices for you. Sorry man. Will check in the morning and let you know

I thought the same sedans look heaps better

fuaaaark

some dude just lunched his commo HARD about 200m from my house...

That's alright then. Yep,that's exactly what they do...prey on ignorance with the common man...but the moment you show them that you know what you are talking about and what you are entitled to, they will move for you because they know it's illegal.

Hey brahs i've gotta do a drive test on friday, would I be able to take my car for the test? It's roadworthy but quite loud and a lil bit hard to see out of rear window and quarter glasses, reckon they'd let me do the test in it?

Do driving test with an instructor IMO. They usually know the testers and do a good job of keeping them half distracted while you drive.

Have heard that doing the test in your own car can hurt your chances. Pretty sure it has to be a roadworthy car and, well, the cops look down on Skyline drivers, so maybe VicRoads staff will too?

    • The fab work can be as simple as a couple of silicon hoses and clamps to the factory piping.
    • Just sounds like either way you need to do some fab work to get everything to fit, so why limit yourself at that point? If the GCG high flow option is zero effort in and out swap though I'd probably do that. It's almost certainly lowest risk, lowest cost, etc. The HKS GTIII-RS option that Kapr mentioned is laughably expensive for what it is, they charge the exact same for two turbos on the RB26 so their margins are off the charts on that thing.
    • Intake manifold is not a part of the issue. The turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold. That is easy. But close your eyes and picture the physical situation. That is a T3 flange on the manifold and a T3 flange on the turbo. As long as any new turbo has a T3 flange on the exhaust housing, that exhaust housing will bolt to the exhaust manifold. This places the exhaust housing in the same place as the stock one. But now move your mental attention a little further forward. The location of the compressor housing is set by the length of the turbo's core. The stock turbo had a long core. Let's say that it is..... 100mm long. So that would place the compressor housing 100mm forward of the exhaust housing. But a highflow, might well have a centre core that is shorter. Let's say that it is only 70mm long. Now the compressor housing will be 30mm further back in the engine bay than the stock one. This DOES move the turbo's compressor outlet backwards. It also moves the compressor's inlet backwards. You will very likely have to do some work to both the inlet and outlet piping to make everything connect again. I am not say this to make it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I am just pointing out that "bolt on" is sometimes not quite bolt on. The highflow from GCG that Murray linked above (https://gcg.com.au/turbo-charger-upgrade-skyline-gtst-2iu-xtrgts-s1.html ) uses a core that is the same length as the stock core, and so does not require this extra work. It will look very much like the stock turbo. No-one uses GTR turbos of any flavour (stock, or aftermarket) in a single turbo application on RB20/25. It's not a thing. Yes, people have been putting on GT3076, GTX3076 (and bigger and smaller versions of those) and G30s (of various sizes) onto RB20/25 since forever. But these are not "bolt on". Everything except the 4 bolts to the exhaust manifold change with these. And genuine Garretts are expensive. Non-gen, like Pulsar, etc, are cheaper, variously as good or nearly as good. But still not bolt on. No-one in the right mind would pay for an HKS turbo. Not in this modern day and age. Well, yes, the GCG highflow. You could ask HG what he can do to make the compressor housing sit in the original location. There are surely others doing highflows around the world. And some of the eBay/Temu ones (as reported by Dose) work and don't die. Bit of a lottery though. I would send your turbo to GCG (here in Oz) to be highflowed if you want a trivial no-extra-work option. But seriously, the work required to change inlet and outlet piping is not that hard. That's a boost control problem, not a turbo problem.
    • Thank you all for the replys 🙂 I know that intake would be different but that is one pipe at it is not that hard to get(custom one). I meant mainly bolt to the stock manifold and the turbo elbow. I looked and many sites/forums but they are just "old" with some old HKS turbos from GT-R i guess? What about some Garrets?  Or any other turbo? Is there even a turbo which i can just bolt on? 😄 And yeah i know about that new HKS but that is like 2000k USD without taxes/shipping in here   Iam getting a touch up tune but my "problem" is that on the "not" hot day iam getting peaks around 0,9 bar...and when it was around 15 Celsious i saw peak around 1 bar which is just too much for stock turbo. And of course turbo is old and i like to get some new one for a piece of mind 🙂
    • I'm working on the assumption that our friend Jasmine here is a Russian (or, possibly Ukrainian) spammer/spambot, based purely on the number of such that I have been having to neuter in the last few weeks. IP address for the OP above was in WA. But that could have been via VPN. Posting at quarter to 4 in the morning is a good sign of being from somewhere in Europe. The last Jasmine that I kicked in the cooch was IP addressed in Ukraine. Even that could have been via VPN, and the bitchbot could have been from Russia, Serbia, China or anywhere. Regardless, was a spambot, so I killed it with fire. The fact that our new friend Jasmine here did not respond in any way to my tart query strongly suggests to me that this OP was just the establishment phase of a user able to be activated for spamming in a week, or 3 or 10.
