I picked up an R200 with a 4.4 LSD on the weekend, I'll strip this down and rebuild it along with the rest of the rear end in the coming weeks.

It's been a pretty crazy few weeks so not a lot happening on the car front, hoping to reassemble and pain the GTR grill this weekend though. I can't for the life of me find the paint sample we made up so I had to get a mate to send me down his colour chips for matching, no paint codes available for this stuff unfortunately.

I was going though some boxes from my trip to Japan in Feb this year and found these goodies. Some door handles, a GTR style gear know, NOS badges, water heater seal and stainless trim for the centre console.

Also a whole bunch of stickers for the car, it's the little details that make the difference! :)

So a pretty major development this week, Lachlan Fowler at Les Collins Racing had a fully built 3.3ltr L series short block for sale which I've purchased. He's decided to go down the full billet crank race spec path meaning the built bottom end is no longer needed. I'll supply my own P90 head to the builder to be ported, polished and rebuilt. The motor should be good for 350hp and 280ft'lbs of torque with the right head, cam and induction.

Short motor specs are:

  • L28 3.3ltr short engine.
  • 89mm bore x 89mm stoke = 3322cc
  • Engineered by Les Collins
  • F54 block. Acid dipped, 1/2 grout fill, sonic tested & offset bored to 89mm & finial diamond honed to exact clearance.
  • Deck milled parallel to crank tunnel centreline.
  • Clearanced crankcase, de-burred & painted in Gyptal.
  • New gallery plugs. Blanked oil pressure relief port.
  • Standard sump & pickup (to be replaced with Kameari pickup)
  • Modified 89mm stroke crankshaft, oil gallery plugs tapped & plugged.
  • Custom CNC billet steel 8.8kg flywheel to suit crank (no clutch assy).
  • 137mm I-beam connecting rods with ARP2000 rod bolts.
  • Custom SPS 89mm forged pistons – designed to work with a P90 head.
  • New timing chain guides & new Kameari HD timing chain.
  • New OEM front timing cover (de-burred, polished & water-jet blasted) fitted with replated bolts.
  • New Water pump.

At this stage I'm looking towards injection as the 44 Mikuni carbs I have just wont be big enough and would limit the motor to around 280hp. The other option is 47mm OER carbs but Jenvey make a 47mm heritage DCOE twin body with the injectors hidden in the body. Heritage look with modern features. I'll need to look at a fuel tank conversion using EFI hardware's EFI conversion kit and consider an ECU, perhaps Motec M800 or a Haltec equivalent.

Not sure who will complete the head work and engine but at this stage I'm looking at either Peter McDonnell or Les Collins Racing, both are true professionals and will do a great job.

Here are some shots of the motor before it will be torn down:

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
