BTW I think Paul's car looks fantastic

paul_r30.jpg

So between this one, Ben's R32 and I think there is one other R32 it should looks like a Nissan racing re-union, love it.

Once they stop pandering to the sooky Porsche drivers and let R32 into classics I reckon we will see a few more done the same way.

See...that is uber cool. Love to see an off its head go toe to toe with Blaise's chook cooker RX7. I will build it and Dr Woo can win in it!

hahah hope that's Liam :P

looks like ben had some bad luck, but at least it is still SAU all over the top of the class....hope those guys keep it together tomorrow.

looks like lots of big names fell off today, apparently conditions were terrible this morning.

Go piss bin into the lead in em

haha thanks guys. Got quite a surprise at lunch time. 30 or so cars didn't make it to the end today with several nasty looking crashes. Murchison and riana were two of the hardest stages for us with a mix of slippery tar, oil and plenty of literred cars. Turns out that 33 windscreen wipers don't really work over 180km/h.

Congrats Liam, great work getting through.

I know Kel was stoked with second as well, and if Mel had been 1 sec faster it would have been an all SAU podium.

And a GTR took the overall win too, so happy days for Skylines :)

Nice work Piss Bin and to everyone else down there. Looked like a bloody tough year!

And as stoked as I am for Jamie to come through for an outright, I'm absolutely shattered for Matt Close in his Audi. Knowing what Captain Fathom puts into it, and what a result it could have been, has kept me sleepless.

Awesome that YT could get that Evo over the line too. Really happy for him and John, and props to their mates and crew for pitching it so admirably.

Although I do hope to see a somewhat more competitive field in the future events, as I don't think it's just me who looks at it and wonder where some very long term (and fast) competitors have gone?

Cheers to everyone for all the nice stuff said.

We were just happy to get through this one given all of the carnage- the podium spot was a bloody nice bonus.

Massive Congratulations to Liam & Larry - so many people were happy to see you take the top step- especially us!

If there had been another stage it would have been an SAU 123 for EM. Mel was totally blitzing us at the back end of the event and for it to come down to one second in the end was just incredible.

Commiserations to Ben- this can be a rough old game sometimes.

It was also great to see Paul running the dirty 30- people (including the Nissan flag boys) were far more interested in that car than those (yawn) 35s!

Hopefully we'll add to the dinner set tonight. We could be a good chance for the team award, I'll get my platinum plate and a little birdy has suggested Steve and the Just Jap GTR may be joining the hall of fame ;)

Sounds like a case of steve bradbury then?

To finish first. First you must finish.

Never a truer saying.

Plenty of people can be quick but it's an endurance even not time attack. Targa history is full of people that nearly made

Thanks again everyone! Still riding the high of wining, though going back to work today was a killjoy.

We were so happy to see you up there too Kel!

Hats off to Mel too for the very close 4th place with several 1st in category stage times.

I tried to wave whenever we went past the guys with the Nissan flag. I'd love to see a 31 in it along side the 30 too!

Commiserations to Ben too as he was killing it before the alternator issue. He was really on a mission for stage times on day 5 and set several top 3 overall stage times.

    • Must have been an absolute nightmare to drive when the power steer was out, the rack ratio/wheel size/caster is all set up for power assistance
    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
