people struggle with it. used to get letters/bills addressed to multiple variations of the spelling (no double l, f instead of s, no i on the end etc). Sometimes billed twice. Mainly parental choice, but i went along with it

Do miss it though

I know that feel brah

I embrace it though

People: your "dispute" is with the person who hit you / you hit. Insurance companies are merely a proxy for those involved in an accident. Hypothetically, if someone wrote off your 10k car and they were only insured third party for 8k, you would still be pursuing the other 2k from that individual, not their insurance company.

With this in mind, legal resolution must occur between the parties involved in the accident. Therefore, those involved can only elect to have an insurance company represent them, i.e. they make a claim and the insurance company effectively acquires the debt and legal proceedings from their customer for as far as they are covered in their PDS.

Now, if you are not at fault, another party's insurance company has no right to dictate to a non-customer what course of action you must take for resolution (including where it is repaired), beyond what the law states you are required to do. You have no contract with this insurance company, nor have you purhased a product from them with a PDS that you have agreed to. As a proxy for their customer, all they can do is argue that your quote(s) is unreasonable and challenge it in a judicial hearing aka VCAT. This costs $35 for a hearing. VCAT will then obtain quotes themselves from their own assessors / panel beaters to decide if your quote was actually reasonable or unreasonably high. It is the same deal when no insurance companies are involved and the parties disagree on quotes - insurance being involved doesn't change how the law works in dispute resolution.

Most insurance companies won't bother taking it this far if your quote is a grand or so higher than theirs, as they have to pay to send someone to VCAT to argue a case they could lose. Some just try to make it sound like you have to do as they say, because, if they can save even $100 on a quote, the assessor looks good to his boss.

Above all, if you are not satisfied with any repairs, you can challenge this in VCAT also. Status quo must be restored, leaving your vehicle how it was pre-accident and you without loss/damage.

Source: spent too much time in VCAT hearings and dealing with scumbags

I know I'm behind but 3rd party fire theft upto 10k has no bearing on coverage of your car if they hit you and that's the policy they have your car will be fixed / repaired regardless of the cost the dollar amount is only related to they payout the insurance company will give to the policy holder in the event of theft or fire.

I know Al, third party usually covers up to ~20 million in property damage...it was just a hypothetical (pretending the 20 mil was actually 8k) to demonstrate that, regardless of insurance being involved, your dispute as a whole is still legally between you and the other parties who hit you / you hit.

Any of you cunce read Jap? I need some help with an address

Sorry mate I was at work. Elsewise just shoot me a pm if you need anything like this lols, I'll see if I can help :). But I see Alvin-kun already sorted you out this time :P

So yeah, in short, I shouldn't be on the road.

you what reeeeaaaaalllly pisses me off. My housemate telling me his story of driving in Australia. Got his licence in India somehow, brought licence to straya where it is accepted and no need to re-sit or do a test. Buys a cheap magna (stereotype much) and then waits for his friend to passenger for some pointers. Friend cant make it, so he drives around the block for a few times and says "got the hang of it pretty quick so after that it was easy".

first time he'd driven a car. and didnt think there was anything wrong with that. I mean, theres only a few dents on his car. they look like parking dents, but fark me. vicroads gain nothing from this except an endless supply of taxi drivers. i dont get it

What about the narrow-minded elitist GT-R owners from the lulz thread? Do they get seasons greetings? My food baby is coming along nicely and I hope you've all had a great day.

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
