Indicate Engine Type

Engineering/Compliance certificate is an issue. Don't fancy a trip to Sydney (EPA) and the bother of trying to meet the standards is a real PITA.

Fine if you never get pulled over but if you do the choices are it's engineered or returned to stockish.

Selling would be a nightmare also because if it goes interstate it cant be registered without issues. And my final thought would be if I'm not a dyno queen or after serious power for straight line or track racing it would be a real shame to go single on such a great condition GTR.

Stock / stock looking GTR's pull the good dollars. Although your right I was going Single but not any more :)

They're journal bearing. Waste of time.

if you could believe the HKS propaganda    And look at those graphs, run some SS's/-9's at the same boost.

How much are these overpriced nuggets?

Mega thread bump I know, but a tuning shop in Kentucky managed these results with VCAM step 1 and the GTIII-SS turbos: https://www.facebook.com/Dynosty/videos/528591662283860/

I'm not really interested in the numbers themselves which seem a little overstated IMO but this seems to vaguely corroborate UP Garage's results seen here where peak torque happens at 5500 rpm: https://www.facebook.com/upgarage/photos/a.2754286177933791/2756172981078444

I'm still not sure if 0.54 a/r on the exhaust is the right thing for midrange power but shape of the curve especially with E85 seems pretty decent for a bolt-on turbo.

With Vcam peak power is at 6k, so that will be a change of driving/shifting habits.

Full boost at 4500 and peak power at 6000.   That's horrible, and it's not VCams fault.

It's on e85, maybe max out injector or fuel pump

We should just start a thread with a list of officially shit turbos, and these can be the first entry.

Just imagine if there was no vcam and was on 98 fuel.

full boost at 5k rpm+

I'm confused as to why Joshua posted these results - to justify his purchase of these shit turbos, with shit results ?

They're pretty mediocre but I figured someone would be interested if they ever dug this thread up. Personally all I'm hoping for is to get results on par with -7s, any more than that I'd consider a win. Every time I look at the twin turbo piping it's pretty cringeworthy how many twists and turns and right angle merges occur.

    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
    • Well the articals keep saying a Q50s (Skyline in Japan) with a new Manual gearbox. I like the talk about the new looks with the round tail lights. I hope they bring back the retro look like they did with the Z
