  1. Hey guys. Need to get the head machined, as a leak down test showed some major leaking coming from the exhaust valves in cylinders 5 and 6. Im looking at upgrading the cams, valve springs, and they will replace the usual little bits and pieces as part of a head refurbishment. Any other things I should do while the heads off?

Hi, Looking for an rb26 head complete but minus the hot side (no turbo's) needs the plenum, acv, iirc (what ever it is) rockers etc. I don't need (if it makes it any cheaper) cams, loom, coils, and injectors, cam cover or rocker valley cover. As the title states, i'm looking to buy a complete rb26 head to build a 26/30. must be in good condition and come with all covers, also after a standard intake side to suit and the engine loom. don't want or need the exhaust side.   6. HI all, I've got an R33 and want to put a Sub woofer, Amps & maybe rear shelf speakers in. I've got an Ok Kenwood head unit that's not too old. And 2 new door speakers. The sound is awful. I'm wondering if anyone knows if places like JB Hi Fi / Supercheap auto / Autobarn would be best? I went into 2 of these stores already saying I only wanted to spend about $800 on 2 amps & a sub woofer cuz i already have the head unit & speakers (for now) He ended up trying to sell me $2000 worth of equip. (This was at Autobarn) I go in there, i'm female and i'm an easy target. I'd like to find somewhere thats fair & can provide sub & amps that will give good base & clear sound without distortion or popping. I'm not showing or doing anything flash, Just want to hear good basey sound. I thought about buying privately but too risky if you dont know what to look for. My clarion door speakers are basic, The rear shelf speakers need upgrading. I'd like a 4 channel amp & hopefully one that can run all speakers & the sub (If thats even possible) Thanks heaps. Any advice / recommendations appreciated. I dont know which goes with what and its scary & expensive when you're a chick as they see you as easy prey i think. I need it installed too! I"m in South East Melbourne. Is Strathfield car radio for example better? I dont want to get ripped off, want to be looked after & most importantly want my car looked after & a job done well.   9. Wanted: RB25DE Neo cylinder hear Looking for an RB25 neo head. Can be a DET but prefer a DE. Long story short, new engine but timing tensioner stud snapped. All my hard earn't part time uni dollarz wasted! Anyone have an old de they want to part out? Located in Melbourne.

Just recently bought a Stage 2 R34 Stagea, on straight LPG, with RB25 Neo Det. 4 weeks in and there's oil leaking into cooling system, head cracked in multiple places and will cost more than a whole new engine to weld up.. Need a new head and apparently some valves as well. If someone knows about this more than I do (which is bugger all) then I need help. Can I put a straight Det head on this? Does it have to be a Neo? I'm not too stressed if it has less power, just want to get this car going again. Cheers, Jason

  14. Hi all. Before anyone tells em to search, i have searched and have come up with so many different answers it's unbelievable. > RB25 head going on to RB30 block. > RB20/25 ARP 2000 head stud kit. RB25 service manual states tightening in increments, loosening off to zero, then tightening to 25-34 NM and then angle tightening 90-100 degrees. ARP kit says to install the studs hand tight into the block, put the head on and then lubricate the "stud threads, nuts and washers" with the provided assembly lubricant, then tightening the nuts in 3 equal steps to 108 NM. Now i have a few questions about the procedure. Are you supposed to put the assembly lube onto the stud thread before you put it into the block? Do the studs really just get put into the block hand tight? (Some people use the a hex key and tighten the stud before putting the nut on, which makes sense to me) I know this isn't *really* supposed to go in the forced induction section but as i am assembling the engine ATM i hope this will generate the quickest responses. Thanks all.

  17. RB26DETT Rebuilt engine nasty valve train noise on start up I just replaced the head gasket on this engine. I accidentally started the engine without priming it. After the start up, it immediately developed this nasty valve train noise. Does anyone know where is the noise originated from and how to fix it.   18. Hey everyone, I recently discovered that my camshaft had been over tighten when installing the head back on my motor. This caused the camshaft to bind and SNAP. Anyway, so now the front cam cradle is roughly .003in lower than the rest of the head after machining the scratches. So now I need a new head, as I looked online, I seemed to find a lot of RB25DET Neo heads but no series 1 or series 2 heads. Is it possible to switch everything over to the neo head and bolt it up to a series 1 block? If not, does anyone have a good condition series 1 or 2 head for sale? Thank you!

  20. RB25DET head for sale Note: This head has been modified to suit a RB30 Bottom end, whilst Retaining VCT (PROPERLY!) Head work Completed: - Full clean up - New welsh & oil plugs, - Decked - Crack Tested - Straightness Tested - Full Valve Cut - New Set of Valve Stem Seals - Certain Plugs welded as per high HP requirements - Weld and Fit new VCT Boss - Weld and Shut front Oil Feed to head (this head owes me $1800) Story: First motor I ran in failed, this Head was on it. The Head had some alloy in it from the oil pump. The head has been cleaned out, and came up good, but I would recommend probably be cleaned again for good measure and plugs replaced. I would also recommend new lifters as the lifters that were in it obviously will have some ally inside, so would recommend new lifters. (I have cleaned them and they seem ok and have put th em in their original positions, however, I wouldn't take the chance if it was me) can sell with original cams (that were not in the motor when it failed and they are in VGC, these are the original cams from this Head, the cams that were on the head were tomei ones. The cam bearings and cap shells got scuffed a bit, but Linished up well and are within spec. (feel free to re-measure) I wanted to keep the head as a spare, and if no one buys I definitely will, else... Asking $650 ono. Item is in Brisbane, Pickup only.   21. Hi members Happy New Year My skyline has no power. It's a straight line 6 cylinders non turbo engine. The first 5 cylinders have low compression. The fifth one is just 10 psi. The sixth one is ok. No slippage of the timing belt. I have removed all necessary bolts to remove the head except 3 allen type bolts on the engine head. The allen bolt heads seem rusted as these bolts are out of the rocker area in between the two cams and not exposed to the engine oil. They are very stubborn and one of them got stripped out. I request the members to guide me to undo the bolts. Will using the extractor method work? If no, can I weld a nut to the bolt to ease the job? Please answer.

Hi guys, got a r34 GT-T NEO, checked my coolant this morning and it is dark brown. there was a little bit of sludge on the bottom of the radiator cap and i put my finger in the coolant to find really small traces of oil. from my experience when the head gasket is blown the coolant is a lot worse, but I'm not a mechanic. i have checked a lot of other forums but can't get any specific info that matches up to my issue. i have had the car for 6 months and there has been no problems with cooling system it always sits just under half. Not sure if the following information will be valid but over the weekend i took off the stock turbo and put a high flowed VL turbo, i used my old waste gate and bolted it to 2 plates that were bolted to the side of the compressor housing, i assumed the plates were flexing because it wasn't boosting very well. i then changed the plates to something a bit more sturdy and took it for a drive, on my old turbo i was running 12 psi and when i tested this new turbo it boosted to 17 psi i then straight away turned the boost down to 8 psi. could this have caused me to blow the head gasket when it over boosted?
  24. Hi. I think my cylinder head has a crack in it, as i started seeing coolant in one of the heads cavities near intake manifold. So im thinking of getting a new one. Question is, which ones fit? Its rb25det neo engine with a turbo. The rest of the car is pretty much stock. Will r33 rb25det head do the job? What other options do i have? Or may the leak be coming from somewhere else? I have a very poor picture of the spot where the coolant is (1st cylinder from the front of the car, right above intake manifolds bolts). Leak is excessive enough to drip on the alternator from there, but i can't notice any coolant level drops in radiator or expansion tank.

Hey guys, I am re-assembling my head and I noticed when removing the arp head studs, a couple of the nuts had bottomed out on the thread. i was wondering if anyone knew the height required for the threads to not bottom out. From my measurements; -Block face to nut 70mm (both wound in all the way by hand) -Washer 3mm -Factory head gasket 1mm so this means if the height of the cylinder head face to the washer face Is less than 66mm the nut is not actually compressing the head down. Factoring in machining of the head I know there will be differences but does anyone know the factory height of the head? If it’s something much lower like 65 then I know it was just the stud not wound in properly but just want to make sure I’m getting proper torque as I have read some people double up on the washers
